An early blast of winter over the weekend resulted in snow across
several mountain passes of southern B.C. Below are snowfall totals
from Friday evening when the snow began through Sunday.
Paulson Summit: 48 cm
Kootenay Pass: 35 cm
Pennask Summit: 14 cm
Coquihalla Summit: 7 cm
In addition, cold air in place over the province resulted in several
new record low temperatures Saturday and Sunday.

Discussion.
A strong Idaho low, which formed late Thursday, September 26,
prompted winter storm and snowfall warnings to be issued Friday,
September 27. This vigorous low pressure system interacted with
terrain in the southwest to bring total snowfall amounts as high as
95 centimetres, and blowing snow and gusty westerly winds behind the
low as it moved eastward.
