Some of the models had it above freezing and plain rain by now, so can’t complain. And there was a distinct general trend towards lower modelled amounts in the 24 hours prior to the onset.

Anytime the snow falls overnight then turns into a slush festival..meh. Add to that several hours of zr, and its a good day to stay home. Stay off the roads buttees!!Rubus_Leucodermis wrote: ↑Thu Jan 06, 2022 6:27 am Some of the models had it above freezing and plain rain by now, so can’t complain. Re: January 2022 Forecasts and Discussions
Hey, at least the only snow we got wasn't of the snow to ZR to slush variety (often it is). Don't think there will be much ZR in western areas (there seldom is).
One can always nitpick things for being less than 100% ideal. Getting snow as we went into a cold snap was a rare treat. Add that to the coldest temperatures in several decades and this winter has already been a good one.

You can see that AR taking shape. Major flooding concerns down south as freezing levels soared to 2500m in the Olympics and Southern Cascades. 50-75mm of rain down here by tomorrow afternoon, fortunately it should fall as in the higher alpine limiting flooding concerns.

I went and shovelled..looks like around 15cm fell here..buuuuut already about 2mm of ice on top. And the ice will likely be here for a good part of today.
Top layer of snow is glistening with the ice coating...very shiny. Looks quite cool tbh
Yes i know Rubus..just adding some negatory to feel more in line with some other posters on here

Re: January 2022 Forecasts and Discussions
Drove from Surrey to Abby this morning around 6:00 for work. Roads were better than yesterday. More snow than ice but would it kill them to plow the highway. Could not see the lines on the road and it was fairly soft and plowable. Only saw 1 plow going west in the 45minutes I was out there. Didn’t see any yesterday.
Freezing drizzle was accumulating on my wipers even though I blasted the heat.

Re: January 2022 Forecasts and Discussions
At what point does freezing rain become ice pellets? It doesn’t really make sense that the rain can fall to far in such low temperatures and remain unfrozen until contact with a surface.
