I hit -15.7C earlier. That's a new record for my station.

Wind chill hit -26C, also a record.

I bet the actual temp would have been near -20C had the winds died off.


My coldest low is still January 1993 in Fraser Heights at -18C.

Gfs has had some major Alaskan ridging returning in January at times. Could happen. Warm Alaska = cold here

Not sure about the mainland but when the outflow is going temperatures decrease with elevation on the island. The coldest stations on the South Island this morning were all over 100m elevation
