That weather station was an absolute joke 10 years ago. It recorded the warmest years and even winters in Canadian history for a while despite the fact that a place like Tofino would be a lot warmer. Then they fixed the problem, because it started reading normally.
I didn't know that.Glacier wrote: ↑Thu Aug 22, 2019 2:17 pm That weather station was an absolute joke 10 years ago. Check out this data. Now compare to Merry Island Lighthouse of the same time.Canada Goose wrote: ↑Thu Aug 22, 2019 2:45 pm I didn't know that.
I think the warmest station in whole Canada could be this one: http://climat.meteo.gc.ca/climate_norma ... pi6h-Fsrts
Ya, as you say, Point Atkinson was garbage...Glacier wrote: ↑Fri Aug 23, 2019 7:59 am Check out this data. Now compare to Merry Island Lighthouse of the same time.
So in 2000, Point Atkinson was 12.7C for the year and 6.5C for January. Meanwhile, Merry Island was 10.8C for the year and 4.7C for January! This is complete garbage and false. I can't believe this data passed quality controls!
The data is a lot better now. The most recent cold month (February 2019) shows Point Atkinson at 2.1C and merry Island at 2.4C.
My estimate of the warmest stations in the province would be:
Top 5 Warmest Places in BC (Temperature in Degrees C)
Howe Sound - Pam Rocks (11.3)
Discovery Island (11.2)
Sumas Canal (11.2)
Porlier Pass Light Station (11.2)
Agassiz Mountain Institute (11.1)
BTW, the warmest station in Canada was historically listed at Sumas Canal. I don't think Merry Island is warmer.
I've already posted Castlegar photo on page 3.Castlegar airport is a good station. Cancelgar as locals call it because of all the fog they get in the winter that impacts flights.
My memory isn't long enough to remember everyone you've done, or maybe I didn't notice all of them. I'll have to try searching before posting anymore!
Fantastic photos guy's weather station (porn) get's me excited. talking about point Atkinson, I can remember when it was a manned station I came to know the station master those where the day's indeed. The actual wind readings were radioed into Victoria coast guard radio I believe, I actually got to radio in an observation during a visit, even the fog horn was turned on if the visibility dropped to a certain point now it's all automated what a joke. I think Mr. Nimbus-cile would have good insight into manned stations back in the day. And as for Sumas Canal it's a bad location it's up against a mountain off of highway 1 not very exposed at all another joke.Canada Goose wrote: ↑Fri Aug 23, 2019 9:15 am Ya, as you say, Point Atkinson was garbage...
Merry Island has a mean temperature of 11.0C, so Sumas Canal (pretty good station but a lot of data are missing) is warmer.
Anyway, it's very important to know how each station is located in order to make comparison.
I've already posted Castlegar photo on page 3.

Is that the forestry station?Sardisbcwx wrote: ↑Sat Aug 24, 2019 1:28 am Merritt the automated station is a much better location. Yes it is it's at the rest stop at the bottom of the Highway 5 just before the turn off to the connector we always stop there for a pee and a delicious ice cream bar from the stand there. That way I can stare in awe at the weather station, it's in a bad location for wind only a couple of directions can blow but it's usually a hot wind through there.
It doesn't look that bad to me. Try not having a weather station that lose to the hill in the Fraser canyon or even the Okanagan!Sardisbcwx wrote: ↑Sat Aug 24, 2019 1:19 am And as for Sumas Canal it's a bad location it's up against a mountain off of highway 1 not very exposed at all another joke.
About the Okanagan, I couldn't find the Peachland station, could you?
Not sure.Canada Goose wrote: ↑Mon Aug 26, 2019 7:13 am About the Okanagan, I couldn't find the Peachland station, could you?
