It was bookended with 2 great winters though. 92-93 was a good one too. Lots of snow in late Dec and then a long dry spell with Arctic air through much of January 93 with the snow on the ground for weeks. Dry and cold February too.

Yep, before about '96-97 those kind of winters were much more common. Since then, only two winters have come close ('08-09 and '16-17).

It's absolutely pouring out here in the central valley l can't see how we avoid more flooding on the Sumas prairie, not as bad as 2 weeks ago but it puts them a step back.

We can hope, though it is looking pretty bleak. Just think back to the 80s and 90s and how often we'd get significant arctic blasts and/or prolonged periods (2+ weeks) with snow on the ground.

Examples being '78-79, '79-80, '81-82, '83-84, '84-85, '85-86, '88-89, '89-90, '90-91, '92-93, 95-96 and '96-97. Ever since, (as mentioned earlier) only '08-09 and '16-17 stack up with those winters.

What is this I smell? An end to all this rain on the BC coast?
It's true, we should be looking at a drier (compared to now) but much chillier weather patter going into mid Dec.
Things seem to be pointing to a possible good winter for snow lovers this year. If the extremes trends continue then we could see record snowfalls this year in the SW portion of BC.

l know those winter's are getting further apart as years go on.
If l ever want to see cold and snow retirement up north may be in the cards sad.
