Current situation reminds me of the Feb 2017 snow/ice/rain storm when all the highways leading out of the lower mainland were also closed.

Travel between British Columbia’s south coast and the Interior was at a standstill after freezing rain and heavy snow closed every major highway early Friday morning.

Many travellers spent a frigid night trapped on Highway 5, the Coquihalla Highway, when that busy route was shut down by icy conditions and several collisions.

Highway 1 from Yale to Lytton and through Glacier National Park is also closed by a high avalanche hazard, while the same risk severed Highway 3 east of Hope overnight, as well as Highway 99 from Pemberton to Lillooet.

Central valley folks, the B.C. Rivers forecast center has issued a flood watch for both the Vedder/Chilliwack rivers. Be safe out there today this is absolutely insane the worst in many years.
I made it back to Chilliwack from Rosedale with no issues l took Yale Rd. through Rosedale and then onto Hiway 1 via Annis Rd.
I stayed away from the (S) curves looked like traffic was stopped between Bridal falls exit and Annis Rd west bound for somr reason.

Wind warning up for some areas. Not good considering how saturated the ground is.

It is getting pretty windy here now.

Wind warning in effect for:

Metro Vancouver - central including the City of Vancouver Burnaby and New Westminster
Metro Vancouver - North Shore including West Vancouver and North Vancouver
Metro Vancouver - southeast including Surrey and Langley
Metro Vancouver - southwest including Richmond and Delta
Strong winds near the water today.

Locations: Metro Vancouver regions near the water.

Hazards: Northwest winds 70 km/h gusting to 90 km/h.

Timespan: Near noon through this afternoon for the strongest northwesterly winds.

Remarks: With the passage of the cold front today, southerly winds gusting to 60 km/h this morning will shift to west or northwest winds near noon. These winds will be strongest near the water, with gusts up to 90 km/h possible. For areas away from the water, gusty winds are still possible but are not expected to be as strong. Winds will ease early this evening as the frontal system moves further inland.

High winds may cause tree limbs to break and power outages are possible.

High winds may toss loose objects or cause tree branches to break. Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions due to high winds.

Looks like the front will cross thru here a little before noon. A little concerned with that westerly wind surge behind the front. 80-90kmh gusts with totally saturated soils

Yet another weather catastrophe this year. Its going to take months to clear the mudslides and rebuild the culverts.

Good news is we dry out after today but the bad news is we have a raging zonal pacific flow due west along with flat dirty ridging overhead...There is more potential AR's in this region by the weekend.

And give credit to the models picking up on these extremes well in advance. I am often skeptical of their pinpoint accuracy, but this year they have been scary accurate for these events
I really hope we do not get another event like this..the effects of this will be devastating for a widespread area.
I hope those people trapped in the mudslides get out safely
