Music

Post by AbbyJr »

I thought it would be cool to start a thread where we can discuss our favourite musical bands and genres.

I love power metal that is based on fantasy. One of my favourite bands is Avantasia. Their song "The Seven Angels" is absolutely epic.
Just an incredible composition. Very sad that one of the guest singers, Andre Matos tragically died June 2019 of a heart attack.

He was the one singing the following line in the song:
When you're walking on your own
When you're broken and alone
You may feel us from inside on the other side of life
This was back in 2002, but still makes the song even more powerful knowing the sad news about Andre Matos.

Great idea! I gave yours a listen it is pretty epic. I'm partial to slightly milder tones myself, but I love me a good ballad, and your song is a heck of a story. Wondering if you've heard of a7x since a friend recently told me about them and I get a pretty similar vibe.

Darn, I didn't know the singer had died -- sad to hear that.

The Seven Angels is a great song. I like the changes in tempo, melody and instrumentation. The Metal Operas are definitely classics. I've been listening to them for over 15 years now.

I like most of the albums by Avantasia as well as Edguy, Tobias Sammet's main band.

Yup those metal operas are awesome. :D

I haven't heard much of Edguy. I'm going to give them a listen.

Tobias Sammet is such a good song writer. His compositions are amazing, so I'm sure I will love Edguy too.

Hey I love that band. My roommate showed me them years ago and I was like "2 cellist? Pfft" then proceeded to get blown away. Their dynamic range is intense. Its a very unique sound 👌.

I like a lot of classic rock.

Recently I've been playing drums with my bass playing father in law who I live with. He actually built this stage that we use for jamming and recording.
We've played stuff like Tom Petty, April wine, trooper, but also some weird stuff like radiohead, Emerson lake and palmer, collective soul, kind of all over the map.

I like lots of modern stuff too. If you ever need an artist with a soothing voice to just chill out to, check out Bedouine or this localish band Carmanah. Female singers both but just incredible vocalists.

I could go on for hours but I won't....yet. lol
