At least Jan looks potentially promising.

I'd be fine with the entire winter torching if we can have a classic January, with a mean temp at least below 1c at YVR.

I'd give up a classic January for a decent Canuckle season Trex. :shifty:

They'd have to win the Stanley Cup for me to consider giving up a classic January. ;)

Wow I was looking at the 1964/65 winter and was it ever intense. Nearly two weeks of arctic air beginning mid December with multiple region wide snow events. Cold outflow winds roared through Abbotsford on December 15th with a peak gust of 121 km/h and a low of -16.1C. The following day a low of -18.3C was recorded. Temperatures remained cold throughout the rest of the month and the first half of January with more rounds of snow. Significant snow cover (20cm or more) was recorded at YXX between December 21st and January 18th.

If only we could have a repeat of that this upcoming winter. :wish: :wish: :wish:

December '64 was the snowiest December on record for much of the south coast.

A suppressed jet resulted in most regions further south in Oregon and northern California being extremely wet that month, while the BC central and northern coast had an extremely cold and dry month. We lucked out being in the middle thus alternated between arctic blasts and heavy snowfalls/rainfalls. The month was similar to December 2008 and kind of like December 2016 except with more constant precip as we were consistently on the northern edge of the active storm track.

Yup there are similarities but December 1964 was a lot colder than 2008 and 2016.

Monthly average temp was actually very similar in '64, '08, and '16 (at least at YVR).

Dec 1964 featured a pronounced top tier arctic blast for a few days, while Dec 2016 had multiple minor arctic intrusions throughout the month. '08 split the difference between the two.
