Another way of looking at the toll (since "official" covid death stats are seen as both over reported and under reporting depending on region and those doing an analysis) is to simply check the hard data... see the death rate in BC for 2020 or 2021 and compare it to the past few years or the long term average and make your own conclusions from there.Forrest Gump wrote: ↑Wed Aug 11, 2021 8:43 pm The official covid fatality rate is 1.16%,which is based on confirmed covid cases. But what's the rate of bc residents that died from covid ?
Answer : .035%
I haven't looked up the stats but my guess is that the percentage is extremely low compared to other diseases . Having said that I realize the very low rate is somewhat skewed due to lockdowns, restrictions, vaccinations, etc , but nonetheless that's a pretty low number, just sayin.

Re: Covid Pandemic
We've done quite well here. I have to give BH and her team credit. I also think the LM is a relatively healthy, diet and fitness conscious place too which when you see the obesity and covid death connection is sadly a major factor.Forrest Gump wrote: ↑Wed Aug 11, 2021 8:43 pm The official covid fatality rate is 1.16%,which is based on confirmed covid cases. I stopped following but that's not surprising with all the new cases. Apparently Kelowna general is feeling the strain.SouthSardiswx wrote: ↑Thu Aug 12, 2021 12:41 am Agreed Trex, l thought BH was not doing anymore afternoon briefings? she's been on the last 3 days.

Re: Covid Pandemic
I don’t think you’ll see much more in the way of restrictions locally. Nothing more than mask mandates anyway, which I’m fine with. But, I think you will begin to see more mandatory Vaccine requirements from certain employers and industries. The industry I work in is already seeing it. I, for one, welcome it quite frankly. But, that’s just my opinion.SouthSardiswx wrote: ↑Fri Aug 13, 2021 8:49 am I'm guessing over 550 cases today, l see restrictions looming again sick of it.

Re: Covid Pandemic
I agree. Time to restrict the unvaccinated if anything and let the rest of us live our lives. Hopefully mandatory vaccines for hockey and other activities gets a few people to shape up. Tired of this pandemic by choice business. The USA is doing terribly once again.Bonovox wrote: ↑Fri Aug 13, 2021 9:37 am I don’t think you’ll see much more in the way of restrictions locally. Re: Covid Pandemic
Quite a few nurses quit in Vernon and Kamloops rather than take the vaccine, and now the hospitals are very short staffed even before a rise in hospitalizations.Bonovox wrote: ↑Fri Aug 13, 2021 9:37 am I don’t think you’ll see much more in the way of restrictions locally. A friend of mine got Covid this summer. He said his doctor told him that the vaccine is actually spreading the virus because people are no longer social distancing and masking up. They think they're immune when the truth is the Delta variant is spread almost as much among the vaccinated as the unvaccinated (although symptoms are far less severe when vaccinated, so still good to get vaxxed up).

Unfortunately Glace it's become a political football, if you even talk about getting vacc'd let alone wear a mask to those that are anti mask/vaccine you run the risk of insulting them.Glacier wrote: ↑Sat Aug 21, 2021 3:27 pm Quite a few nurses quit in Vernon and Kamloops rather than take the vaccine, and now the hospitals are very short staffed even before a rise in hospitalizations.

I've found it can often go both ways... just like the "left-right" divide and polarization.SouthSardiswx wrote: ↑Sat Aug 21, 2021 8:08 pm Unfortunately Glace it's become a political football, if you even talk about getting vacc'd let alone wear a mask to those that are anti mask/vaccine you run the risk of insulting them.
