HVAC companies are quoting neighbors in the range of 40-50k to install heatpumps and ducts with filtered air circulation. May see if it improves over the next 2-3 years but it's been like this for 6 years.
I know the grass looks greener on the other side but the East and basically everywhere are having issues of equal or even greater severity. Personally if I had the option if be looking way north. However once again there are environmental and societal issues up there too. There's no escape from the situation we are in.

North coast of BC has my ideal climate. Especially a little further inland like Terrace or Smithers. But, I'm tied to this region for my job and family. I still like where I live, just not as much as I used to. ;)

Got extended family that moved from Surrey to Sudbury, Ontario. Most smoke 2 out of the past 7 years has been high level smoke. Climate can be harsh in winters but there's a lot of activities to do without having to contend with crowds like here.

You get wicked rain and wind storms, blizzards, troughy snow, brief heatwaves in the summer. The issue is no economy.

Yeah. Luckily our industry is coast to coast, and you can bid location by seniority and I have thought about it. However with 2 toddlers and a 3rd kid on the way in January, having extended family here locally is just too good to give up. Makes child care so much easier.

A hot summer there is a different beast though. Humidity is insane.

I spent 3 summers in Toronto and Ottawa. Instant relief was driving North. There was always a nice breeze coming off Lake Huron.

I hated Toronto. Their Urban Heat Island effect is so pronounced that you'd feel lingering evening heat even if temps maxed out in the mid 20s.

Unbelievable how these heat waves just pop up out of nowhere. The mean line was flat as of like 2 days ago.

That west coast ridge is a persistent feature. For as long as it is....that means heatwave after heatwave with very mild conditions in between.
