I'm guessing 40C again?

Just about, but it only lasts for a couple of days. The ridge retrogrades a bit to the west.

597 decameter ridge. Move that a bit closer to the coast and any and all smoke is heading for us.

That's true...the first half of September can outright suck. But the second half you start to get cooler night at least and usually no higher than 25.

Re: August 2021 Forecasts And Discussions
I see a near 600dm ridge with the axis slightly offshore. Strong E-NE winds bringing in all that Interior smoke to the shore. It would probably limit the heat to the mid 30s this time, but the big story would be the thick surface smoke.
Still 6-8 days out,

Yup. The ridge ends up retrograding a bit to the west, but it wouldn't take much. And that is probably where we are headed.wetcoast91 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 04, 2021 12:10 pm I see a near 600dm ridge with the axis slightly offshore. We've seen this script play out before and we know it always goes Murphy's law.

Re: August 2021 Forecasts And Discussions
it's interesting that Merritt is often one of the coldest places in BC in the morning, and then one of hottest in the afternoon. You gotta love the high diurnal temperature variation there.
I think Tatlayoko Lake in the Chilcotin is the only place, however, that can be top 5 in both categories in the same day.
BTW, there's a fire there sparked by lightning. Not very big yet, but they have been hitting hard with helicopters and water bombers...

Re: August 2021 Forecasts And Discussions
Favourable setup for extreme heat with offshore flow and downsloping winds but smoke aloft (and potentially at the surface) would cap daytime temps.

Sweet. Only 1mm here. The dandelions in my lawn are mostly dead or dying now. I think another couple weeks without rain might finish them off.

Re: August 2021 Forecasts And Discussions
The EPS just sucks. No relief with a 595 ridge from late Tuesday through the weekend. Temps near 40C before the smoke moves in Thursday. Ridge actually re-strengthens right over us by the following weekend

595dm is weak sauce after the 600dm ridge back in late June.wetcoast91 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 04, 2021 1:05 pm The EPS just sucks. No relief with a 595 ridge from late Tuesday through the weekend. This is the summer you were hoping for. Wall to wall sunshine and multiple forays into the mid 30s and even low 40s.
