Looks like Mark Madryga not the only meteorologist who thinks the recent record heat wave was a once in a lifetime event.

Yes i agree. Dont think i will ever see 3 days of that kind of heat again. Nito may disagree but i digress.Forrest Gump wrote: ↑Tue Jul 06, 2021 11:22 pm Looks like Mark Madryga not the only meteorologist who thinks the recent record heat wave was a once in a lifetime event.

Sadly, we will likely never see the same extremes in cold. Winters seem soooo watered down recently. My guess is that would be like 3 days of -12cH and -19cL for Abby area, or similar
And here it is..December 2024 all snow geeks have been waiting for ..with the LR weather "charts" calling for a cold and snowy month. Where's the troffing?

Re: July 2021 Forecasts And Discussions
The truly annoying part is that one station will be 4° hotter than the other as is the case with Revelstoke even though both weather stations are within 20 ft of each other. At least with Lytton the difference was only two degrees, and one degree on the very hottest day.
This really calls into question the reliability of the thermometers.
The reason there are two weather stations is that Environment Canada turned over control of airport weather stations true NAV Canada about a decade ago. But it seems like Nav Canada doesn't calibrate or maintain the station's properly so Environment Canada started up their own weather stations at the same place in the same compound.
This includes Kamloops, Lytton, Revelstoke, Prince George, Cranbrook, Fort Nelson, Smithers, and Vancouver.
In the case of Clinton NAV Canada installed their own weather station up higher on the plateau, and in the case of Kelowna Environment Canada established a station at UBC which is up hill from the airport.
Some places only have a NAV Canada station like Williams Lake and other places only have a an environment Canada station like Lillooet.
It really seems like a stupid idea and a waste of money to have redundant stations all over the place. Environment Canada has had a lot of cuts over the years and a lot of weather stations closed down, for example, the environment Canada station here in Vernon closed down in 1995. At one time forestry stations were Environment Canada stations so they would be in the database but with the closure of so many Forest service offices in the 80s and 90s those also closed. So now a lot of towns have automated forestry stations like Valmount but no official Environment Canada stations or any NAV Canada stations.
These agencies should all be talking to each other and have official stations such that we can better monitor the climate. They claim that climate change is a serious problem but they don't seem to actually believe it with their actions because they don't put the effort into monitoring climate change so that we can better understand it and fully know the serious impacts that it brings.

We will never see those temperatures again in our lifetime to bad the media uses events like this to fear monger global warming doom and gloom.Forrest Gump wrote: ↑Tue Jul 06, 2021 11:22 pm Looks like Mark Madryga not the only meteorologist who thinks the recent record heat wave was a once in a lifetime event.

Btw I DO believe in global warming it just has nothing to do with Individual weather events.

Re: July 2021 Forecasts And Discussions
That is interesting and rather annoying. As a Nav Canada employee, I am not surprised at all though. Nav Canada has no interest in the upkeep of weather stations. They don't even have a met department and most of the techs are way too busy maintaining navaids for aircraft. Hopefully, Environment Canada just takes it all back.Glacier wrote: ↑Wed Jul 07, 2021 8:32 am The truly annoying part is that one station will be 4° hotter than the other as is the case with Revelstoke even though both weather stations are within 20 ft of each other. Equivalent to that heatwave would be even colder than that for Abbotsford... probably closer to -15c/-25c.Hawk wrote: ↑Wed Jul 07, 2021 8:26 am Yes i agree. Dont think i will ever see 3 days of that kind of heat again. Nito may disagree but i digress.

Sun has come out now but it's still coolish and windy, so invigorating after all those days of still air. I saw the ravens playing in the wind.

Re: July 2021 Forecasts And Discussions
Either the weather station is on fire or the weather station is glitching because no other station is even close to this value. It went offline for a couple of hours and then came back all glitchy. weird.Roberts Creeker wrote: ↑Wed Jul 07, 2021 1:24 pm Hmmmm....guess it depends where...and WHEN...you live.
