That being said what makes them so important that they can play hockey and do whatever and I can’t see my grandkids
That's too bad John. My wife and I provide the day care for our grandkids aged 2 and 4 , two to three times a week,so we see them quite often , enjoying every minute , except when the young one tosses all her food on the floor to the dog, very frustrating, dog loves her though. How old are your grandkids?

hopefully by this summer we can go back to a more normal life
That's my hope. By summer people are either vaccinated or have already had it. It's already happening in some places.

Yep. Seems to be reflected in Texas, Florida and California case and death #s with (likely) relatively high levels of natural immunity and increased vaccinations.

Whats your take on the numbers here. 1293 new today. Pretty sizeable jump, fortunately only two deaths. I'm trying to not buy into the hysteria but I can't help feeling concerned right now.

So long as deaths remain relatively low and hospitalizations/ICU numbers are in check, I don't see much cause for concern honestly.

From what I've read, the UK variant is expected to become the dominant covid strain here in BC (which seems to be more transmissible). I've seen plenty of concern around the Brazilian variant as well. However, people need to realize that these kind of things are nothing abnormal with a virus and (most importantly) demographics play the biggest role in impact from place to place, hence why it's prudent to not make quick conclusions regarding their potential effects here versus a country like Brazil. I think Dr. Henry has stressed this point as well in the daily press conferences.

Bringing it back to sports talk though, I've also seen plenty of speculation about the canucks situation right now but I seriously doubt anyone on the team is in any sort of danger, given their age group (0.02% infection fatality ratio for those aged 20-49 versus 5.4% for those aged 70+, based on CDC estimates). Much of the media seems to want to hype it up by describing their symptoms though (headaches, fever, fatigue, lethargy, etc).

Yes these are normal developments. Happened in 1918 too. Luckily this one is not as bad. A Spanish flu repeat would be brutal.

The Canucks will probably be fine. However there may be a player or two who experience long haul symptoms. It would be good if there were more data on those cases. Like percentage of people reporting lingering debilitating symptoms.

Looks like the NHL is pushing for them to start back up next week. Hopefully teams can be better at keeping it out. Regardless I'm probably done watching this season as the nucks are my only team. And they are going to likely get nuked by the rest of the division after this.

Look for no player movement from the Knuckles on trade deadline day on the 12th according to Benning (it's just not the right time with Covid affecting the team) l haven't even looked at the standings Knucks must be miles behind.
