Re: February 2021 Forecasts and Discussions
Ya tmrw looks interesting for higher elevations but i’m more interested in what the models are showing for next thursday. 12z GFS is again showing some widespread snow with that low dropping down along the coast from Alaska
Currently located in Tsawwassen, beside Tsawwassen Mills

If this was December or January maybe... but mid-late Feb snows have a hard time sticking. Nice to look at but they usually don't add up to much. Case in point, this past weekend.
Just my opinion though.
Would like to be proven wrong.

Precip looks lacking tomorrow plus late morning and afternoon arrival. Maybe snow in the air for the lucky.

Re: February 2021 Forecasts and Discussions
So far, I have received 22 cm of snow this winter.
This time last year I had received 92cm.
Lagging behind by 70cm.

Re: February 2021 Forecasts and Discussions
What's your average? 92 cm seems like a lot for last winter. I didn't think there was much snow outside of that week in January.
I'm at 18.4 cm this winter vs. 35 cm last winter. My average is 44 cm (2004-2021).

Re: February 2021 Forecasts and Discussions
Most of that fell in January.
I will need to check and see what the average is. I believe last year was a bit above average. There were those two big snowfalls that bumped the total up.
Here are my stats from last Winter:
Dec 1 - non sticking flurries
Dec 26 - .5cm
Jan 10 - 11.5cm
Jan 12 - 24cm (12cm morning/12cm evening)
Jan 13 - 2cm
Jan 14 -5cm
Jan 15 - 32cm
Jan 16 - 4cm
Feb 3 - 2cm
Feb 4 - 10cm
Total- 92cm
EDIT. Winter of 2018-2019 I received 86cm.

Re: February 2021 Forecasts and Discussions
As much as this winter has been a bust for those south of the Fraser, Pitt Meadows East into Maple Ridge barely got a trace this month. No accumulations pretty much. So horrible.

QPF looks more signficient near the North Shore. Your area really gets screwed in terms of precip in these setups.

Re: February 2021 Forecasts and Discussions
I'm going to guess we see one more low elevation snowfall this winter. Probably in March.

Re: February 2021 Forecasts and Discussions
I don't know. We'll need some true cold continental air for significant low land snow now. Cold onshore flow really won't cut it in mid February. Especially during the day. Call me jaded, but I think this winter is done. I would love to be wrong though.
Hopefully we see a long cool and wet spring for Nito though. That would be great.

Re: February 2021 Forecasts and Discussions
I agree that we need arctic air for significant low land snow this time of year. However, my guess is that we see another period of high latitude blocking in March. Thus, we could see another snowfall. Perhaps I am just being too optimistic.Bonovox wrote: ↑Wed Feb 17, 2021 10:10 am I don't know. Re: February 2021 Forecasts and Discussions
Other way ’round here. Got more on Saturday than I got the entire season last time. Of course, most of what fell last time fell when it was around -10˚C, which did a lot to compensate for lack of overall amount. So no real complaints about either winter from me.
It's called clown range for a reason.

Re: February 2021 Forecasts and Discussions
Though I will note that my current standing total is still below long-term seasonal average (about 35 cm for KBLI), so really hoping for one more event.Rubus_Leucodermis wrote: ↑Wed Feb 17, 2021 10:41 am Other way ’round here.
