Doubtful... lack of moisture is lack of moisture. We may have seen slightly colder daytime highs, but otherwise the same pattern would deliver the same result in December.

For the most part I agree. That was not a pattern conducive to big snows over the South coast. However, some of the day time snow that fell on Sunday would have had an easier time to accumulate in the areas that did receive moisture had it been December/January.

I'm not sure if -25C is possible here, considering our all-time low is -21C. Just getting close to -20C would seem epic, though.

Highly improbable in our current climate, but it is possible as it has occured before in recorded history.

Pitt Meadows dipped to -23.3c in January 1969. It's already in a favourable location to maximize cold during the right setups (as we've seen from past records) and probably was sheltered from the outflow that night as other locations across the lower mainland didn't record readings that low.

Months like Jan 1862, Jan 1875, Jan/Feb 1893 or Jan 1909 likely dropped to nearly -25c in some locations across our region but unfortunately station data was very spotty back then.

Before 2000, four years was the longest period Vancouver had ever gone without recording a temp below -10c.

Today, that record has nearly doubled as YVR now sits at nearly eight years without a single -10c reading.

Ah, I only got 8.8 mm of precipitation over the last week. Many areas of the valley got even less (1.2mm in Agassiz).

Sorry don't get all the whining about our climate. It is what it is, lived here my whole life and most snow events are marginal. Has it got worse, probably when you are always on the edge of snow/rain a slight difference in temp could push snow to rain. It would help if we could get the past weeks conditions in Dec instead of mid Feb but this seems to be the new norm. Yes our friend wetcoast likes to take his jabs but most of the time he is stating facts and betting on the favourite, climo. Looking forward to all the angry rants at the end of the month when historic models bust.

I think it's safe to say that most of the whiners are mainly on the weather forums. , 99.9999% of the South Coast residents are here for the mild winters and warm dry summers. People move here to escape the cold and snow. Unfortunately the trade off is an abundance of rain , and I'm sure most of you have had weather discussions with people where they say they would gladly take the rain over snow and respond with the same ad nauseam "well at least you don't have to shovel it". As much as I would like to see more snow, I can't see myself living anywhere else,meaning the White Rock/South Surrey area, less rain . I guess those like Antares will have to move.

Speaking of moving , if anyone wants to move they better get crackin. Right now the housing market is hotter than Nito's +18° forecasts. I know of someone who just sold their Langley home for 1.2 mil , was asking in the $900,000 range.

That's insane. I heard that the million dollar line went to Langley a couple years ago but I thought it retreated a bit.

Not enough listings on the market, so the few that are on the market get bid up to ridiculous levels. There's still a lot of FOMO in the market, unfortunately. Hopefully we'll see things begin to settle down when the pent up demand from COVID peters out. Eventually, I think the work from home crowd is in for a rude awakening when their employers decide to call them back to the office because they're not being productive enough... lol.
