I know the statistics may say otherwise, but I'll take my chances with a weak or neutral ENSO. This winter was a steaming pile of garbage.

Yeah that was all it was a short duration snowfall. Even Squimish did better then Chilliwack, the temperature cooled enough for it to stick from the get go.

Snowfall warning still up for the valley anothet 10 to 20cm where do they see that. I recieved 5cm this morning.

Good luck with that, we had a Snowfall Warning all day and I got -6cm. It's all pretty much gone now.

l have no idea what their thinking is there. And there's absolutely nothing on radar showing up. But it looks fun to look at.

Someone on Twitter suggested that La Nina actually decreases our chances of top tier cold in the PNW, because it favours a NW flow. He went on to say that we might have better luck next winter when La Nina weakens.

This is interesting. Perhaps this is why statistically, moderate-strong La Nina's are not associated with big time cold events here? Part of me wonders if neutral-weak Nina's combined with a +QBO is the best outcome for us? The 1990/1991 winter was neutral/+QBO.

What are all of your thoughts?

My thoughts, as someone who has learned most of what I know from this forum....my thoughts are they're grasping at straws. My conclusion is that weather is unpredictable and not an exact science and it's going to remain that way for quite a while.

I was expecting this to be a phenomenal winter from what I'd read (on this forum and the news, etc.) and so far it's been very poor. In part because of all the hype of mega cold, mega snow, I was expecting great things so an average to poor winter is a real let down. If I'd been expecting a poor winter, this cold and snow would have been a bonus. I have been finding it interesting how poorly the models performed this year, with lots of modifying theories brought up to explain the failures. I'm sure learning a lot about different systems that may (or may not) explain our weather. Good thing I come for the fun and the family, after all, where else can you talk about weather for more than 30 seconds and not have people's eyes glaze over.

Maybe they have a certain number of Warnings they have to use up before the end of the season and they know time is running out.

I wasn’t expecting mega lowland snows, but I was expecting reliably cooler weather with lower snow levels than we have generally got. Up until Saturday morning, I was quite disappointed. Still think it’s odd how mild December and January were. Would definitely be very disappointed had I received zilch on the Solstice and been mostly skunked on the weekend.
