6cm overnight and still snowing but looks like it’s about to end. EC did okay with their warning for here.

Alaska gets COLD.

Wet no good. This cold snap was a waste of heating bills as it wasn’t cold enough and didn’t have much snow at all. I figured an inch then freezing rain when this started and ended up about right. Hoped EC would be right for once though on the warnings. Nito, do your dance and make it 12C and sunny or -12 and snowing. None of this 0-7 degree and raining crap.

Looks like I got 3-4 cm overnight. Snowing lightly and +0.1C, maybe some ice pellets mixed in.

By the way, what are the best weather subscription services? Been looking at WeatherBELL. Are there any recommended alternatives?

It's called clown range for a reason.

The East Island is pretty efficient at damning cold air aloft (500-1000m) when systems take a WNW, WSW -> E track. Anything from the SW or NW is the exact opposite as the mid layers warm due to the S-SE flow.

This isn't exactly accurate but shows the general idea.

Weatherbell has the best maps. Weathermodels is cheaper not as pretty or as many maps.

I would honestly just use pivotal or tropical tidbits for free. Snow maps are never usually accurate.

I would disagree. The Euro and GFS did all converge on my area getting 15–20 cm. That was a bit on the low side, but: a) what I got was completely within the range of the high outliers, and b) model consensus was a hell of a lot better than the official forecasts which did not call for so much as 10 cm. This is the second time this winter that this has happened: back on the solstice, the official forecasts did not call for snow at all, when model consensus was that I should get about 5 cm (ended up with 6).

And I would use the maps for more than just snowfall forecasting.

Day 10 on the 12z GFS looks chilly...only 10 days away  . GFS has been pretty consistent about that cold shot next week

Incredibly consistent. We need a win here. And it looks like a more classic north south blast than this back door or side door set up.
