No, Nito is right. Sprawling PV's over the centre of the continent generally don't lead to big snow events here. Think back to Dec 1983, and more recently Dec 2013 or Feb 2014.

Well.. we will find out shortly.

Both started off with a strong onshore flow and troughing over the E Pacific. 2008 Had your very warm AR event with the initial trough dropping from Alaska. We had a very cold polar maritime airmass that dropped snow in the interior and along the coast. The arctic outflow in the interior was very deep and not as dry (due to residual moisture).

Dry continental air ripping apart moisture. It’s working hard so that sweat is moderating temps. By the time the high backs off it will be flood gates open for the rain to hit us. Any moisture will be dried up from Fraser outflow. Even at that this outflow is on the weak side. Barely any wind compared to normal. Probably more snow in Mt Vernon than here. Looking more and more like a bust.

Bono has stopped posting maps.... maybe that has something to do with our bad luck.

Been stuck at -4 here since sundown. Still beats still getting 10ËšC rain with no promised cold air in sight.

Probably won't clear out till sometime between 2-4am... at least per the 00z NAM. Pretty disappointing we probably won't see one clear night out of this cold snap.

Not sure how cold you were expecting...Models took the PV from Eastern BC to Manitoba. What we got was a modified arctic continental airmass....known for very low dewpoints and wind. The parade of lows going south means the atmosphere will not decouple to get cold.
