Biggest difference between the GFS and GEM early on is the GEM doesn't develop the cut off lows on the back edge of the block. Pretty much salvages the run.

At least not to the same degree.

00z GEM looks good. Arctic air reaches the south coast by day 8 with some snow before drying out and going into the freezer.

Flip a coin. I think the gfs looks a bit funky with all of its cutoff lows lately but it could happen. GEM usually over amplifies things in the long range. I think anything beyond 5 days is a bigger mess than normal right now.
