Sounds about right for the 20-25th or so. There was a strong storm on the 20-21 but a secondary lows kind of swirled around the south coast for about 4-5 days after that.

To be honest, blocking looks similar to 1969 but what made that year special was not so much the extreme cold but the duration of the event. The entire month even going into February had solid snow cover. The cold locked in and wouldn't budge.

December 1968 did have extreme cold though. January 1969 was cold but not extreme for the most part. Just long duration.

It's unlikely the cold locks in that long this time around given how late in the season it is.

You may be thinking of another year.

The snowstorms on Dec 21st, 24th and 26th in 2008 were all fairly strong systems and predicted to be at least 24hrs in duration. The snowfall with the arctic front on the evening of the 13th caught some by surprise though - YVR picked up 11cm. That snowfall mainly impacted western sections of metro Vancouver though.

Yeah, no notable cold. Ensembles show this too. Chilly with a few chances of snow.

No wind warning yet... just "becoming windy this evening".
No support from the Canadian model suite. But the Euro is said to be one of the most reliable models, though the Canadian model does really well during wind events.

This one may catch everyone by surprise if it verifies.

For what its worth, the Euro shows a 107 km/h gust in Abbotsford overnight tonight. :o

I'm in the same boat Wintergirl, I just wait until someone says winter cancel, or this is happening. I love when someone actually explains what a map means and hoping everything being posted in the last two days, actually happens!!

I was in the same boat a couple of years ago. Hated not knowing what the 500mb maps are.
This pattern change will be better than what we've had, but we don't know to what extent yet. Theres a lot of negativity happening for reasons i understand but when it comes down to it, our outlook won't change anything. As always, i expect Squamish to destroy the LM in snow totals.

To be honest, we don’t know what the finer details will be yet. What we do know is that a pattern change to below normal temperatures is likely in 10 days or so. We’ll probably start getting a better idea of the more localized impacts after the weekend when the event comes into view of the Op models in the 7 day range.
