Just as I expected. As soon as the SSW starts, we see a model shift. Looks like both are happening right now.

Nice and broad but we need that sucker to amplify. Build that bridge across the arctic. Looks like the west based -NAO is here to stay for a while so it could happen.
In the short and mid term though, there is absolutely no chance of that pacific jet shutting down.

Re: December 2020 Forecasts and Discussions
Perhaps a 2006 storm cycle pattern? Both November and December had back to back damaging windstorms and heavy rain events.Typeing3 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 29, 2020 3:36 pm Nice and broad but we need that sucker to amplify. Not surprised. Tomorrow morning looks quite wet, especially for northern sections of the lower mainland.Forrest Gump wrote: ↑Tue Dec 29, 2020 3:37 pm 3:33 PM PST Tuesday 29 December 2020

Re: December 2020 Forecasts and Discussions
The amount of rain we got in the first three quarters of November 2006 was crazy. Mostly SW flow.
The next couple weeks look a lot more zonal.

Re: December 2020 Forecasts and Discussions
Yup. I got locked out of my account once due to a password issue, and Stuffy got it fixed for me right away after I sent him a message on Twitter. Thanks Stuff!stuffradio wrote: ↑Tue Dec 29, 2020 11:39 am I have a Facebook page too for BCStorms, but it doesn't have the same community type feel. I only post some model things sometimes but you can send messages. Usually someone from the forum sends me a Twitter message if the site is down, which hasn't had to happen too many times yet thankfully.
That said, I do think we should consider finding a backup source, since we may not all have Twitter and be able to message you.

Re: December 2020 Forecasts and Discussions
That sounds conservative. I'm going with 5 - 10 for you, gut feeling.
I know burnaby mountain has elevation, but the biggest payoff to me will be those situations where the arctic front and the low dont quite meet up in time. These kinds of sloppy slushuations are kinda meh in my opinion. Itll melt in no time.

Re: December 2020 Forecasts and Discussions
I’d be down with a good 10 cm. Like you said it will melt in a hurry once snow levels rise in the morning. But hey it’s snow.

I’ve seen the flakes fly on 4 occasions so far and twice accumulated over 3cm. Fringe benefits seem to be my friend

Re: December 2020 Forecasts and Discussions
Hopefully January brings us something other than 1 week of rain followed by 20 minutes of brightness a another week of rain. As a lifelong resident of the lower mainland I'm used to the rain but would take some clear and cold to make it feel like winter.
