I have to say, this little snow event definitely seems to be overperforming with respect to my expectations.

I was expecting flakes in the air or a slushy cm or two that would be gone within a day. It’s now 48 hours since the event, and the ground outside is still mostly white, I’ve just record my second day in a row with a sub-40°F (4°C) maximum, small ponds have iced over, and right at sundown the temperature is poised to drop below freezing again.

Hopefully just a warning shot for something more significant and regionally widespread in January!

I had asked about this a while back and was sent a link, but I no longer have it. Just wondering where the Vernon North Environment Canada weather station is located?

I was looking at the climate normals, and Vernon North gets 51.2 cm more snow per year than Vernon Bella Vista.

Also, does anyone know where the Bella Vista station is located? I assume somewhere in the Bella Vista area.

But from what I can remember, the North station wasn't that far north of the Bella Vista area so its crazy to see such a big difference is snowfall.

There is a 111 m elevation difference so maybe thats all it takes?

I wish I could find the yearly average rain and snowfall for the Aberdeen area of Kamloops. The only one on Environment Canada's climate normals is taken from the airport at the lowest elevation. From my understanding, Aberdeen gets a lot more precipitation given it peaks over 800 m in elevation.

Glacier man may know he's up that way somewhere. Gooser would know for sure but he skipped town after realizing this is not Kansas and there's no place like home.

There used to be another station in the kamloops area at the mine, about 15km west of the city. Its around 700m in elevation.

Probably a touch cooler than aberdeen but these climate normals (unfortunately its for 1971-2000) should give you a rough estimate of the climate in the hills around the city: https://climate.weather.gc.ca/climate_n ... dispBack=0

Yeesh man. I'm not seeing any support for a 2014/15 scenario. Just ugly everywhere except for AK, some regions in the arctic and siberia. Hopefully we get some strong arctic growth at least. Actually upon second look, Europe looks to get some action.

Yes I was out in Chilliwack this morning - the mountains were spectacular! Although I have a sweet unobstructed view of Mt Baker from my office window. It never gets old!

If the clouds don't move in again tonight, I suspect we'll get down to around -3/-4c here.

Currently 1.3c high:1.7c low -3.6c snow cover really helps.

In answer to another of AbbyJr’s questions, that page has a “station metadata” tab that shows the lat/long coordinates of the station. Fairly simple matter to plug those into the online map of your choice and see where a station is.

On the other hand, you can't deny that mountain snow is doing great this winter and they look to get 'BIG DUMPS' over the next couple of weeks. New Years Eve in particular looks to be pretty good for skiers.
