In a more modern sense, you're like the anti-Elsa.wetcoast91 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 23, 2020 12:35 pm Michael1 has it all wrong. I am the Grinch that Stole Winter and murdered Frosty the Snowman.

Re: December 2020 Forecasts and Discussions
It's been 12 years (2008) since YVR last recorded any measurable snow in late January.
Have to go back an astonishing 23 years (1997) for the last subreezing high in late January.
I'd say we're well past overdue for something interesting in that timeframe. Fingers crossed!

Re: December 2020 Forecasts and Discussions
1993 is our best January in the past 30 years (monthly average below freezing at YVR) but 1996 was pretty good, especially late month.

Re: December 2020 Forecasts and Discussions
EPS showed a return to coldish onshore flow with 1000-2000ft snow levels after 10 days and Robs response was...
He seems to only get off on cold pool or dry arctic blasts. No offense, but that looks like crap. Persistent Greenland block/positive anomalies. No sign of anything good for us. I know how it is to grasp at straws, and it's a bad sign when we're doing this now.

I think he only likes the Cold Pool, East Wind type setups, or the arctic hammer dropping down.wetcoast91 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 23, 2020 1:16 pm EPS showed a return to coldish onshore flow with 1000-2000ft snow levels after 10 days and Robs response was...

Is there a better calendar year for winter here than 1996 in recent memory?

With so many on that forum, unless it’s epic winter weather of the sort that’s at least three deviations from the mean, it’s a total winter cancel everybody hates me nobody likes me I’m gonna eat some worms.
It's called clown range for a reason.

In the past 30 years? Probably not.
I'd put 2008 in second place.
