Re: December 2020 Forecasts and Discussions
For our region, NAO isn't really a factor for arctic blasts - we've seen many while the NAO was positive and negative. It's primarily the EPO and PNA that matter.

Pivotal snowmaps are pretty bad. Hoping for OilerNut or the Mr Nip to post something.

Re: December 2020 Forecasts and Discussions
That was a very humble apology. I'm confident John will accept it.PortKells wrote: ↑Tue Dec 22, 2020 9:25 pm Thanks Sardine. I think its just an ongoing thing between us and part of it is my fault.
Honestly John, I'm sorry I called you out earlier this year. It was way too much. We disagree on a lot but I definitely don't want to keep bagging on each other AF style. Can we just call a truce or something
To be honest, while I believe people should follow the rules, I think we all need to stop with the name calling period. I don't know how much of it occurs outside of social media, but I see it on social media all the time. This continuous calling people "selfish and covidiots" is unacceptable.
I saw a tweet a while back by an individual who stated he missed the old days when people would just do their best to keep themselves and each other healthy but would not resort to name calling those who don't want to be on house arrest for a year or longer. If I recall correctly, he cited the 2009 H1N1 pandemic as an example. He stated that while it was a bad virus, people didn't blame each other for transmitting it.
I fully agree. I think the advancement in social media has really allowed people the freedom to just say whatever is on their mind with no filter and to get involved in movements and latest trends. It seems like blaming people for not following the Covid rules is just a trendy thing to do on social media. I'd be interested in knowing how many of these people who condemn others actually follow the rules themselves? Its a lot easier to send a tweet then to actually set a good example in your actions. For example, we have our own Prime Minister who told everybody not to travel but then went ahead and went to his cottage with his family. This is one the problems with name calling and condemning. I think its likely that in many cases, the people doing it have something to hide. I'm not saying that's true of everyone but I would guess it is of a large percentage.
Now as for the churches who continue to violate the rules despite being warned and fined, that is really disappointing and I can understand why people are frustrated with such deliberate refusal to respect the government. Even the Bible says to respect and submit to the governing authorities. The only exception would be if the government was persecuting Christianity and religious as a specific target. However, this is obviously not the case in our current situation. As Christian myself, I can say that any church who would violate the Covid restrictions are giving a very poor testimony of Christianity to the world. Whether you believe the virus is being over hyped or not, the fact is that the rules are in place on the basis of protecting public health, not out of a hatred towards Christianity or religion. Not to mention, $18,400 would have went a long way towards helping the poor, something Christians and religious groups advocate the world should be doing. But instead its going to pay a totally unnecessary fine. Therefore, its very unfortunate that these churches continue to hold in person services, especially when they have option of meeting together online.
We are in a pandemic right now and we just need to do our best to respect each by following the rules but also refrain from condemning and name calling those who don't share the same opinion. My guess is most people who aren't following the rules simply don't believe the virus is as dangerous as the media and governments are telling us. We live in a free country so people have a right to believe that. They should still follow the rules out of respect, but I don't think its fair to call everyone who doesn't selfish or a covidioit either.
Just my opinion. I'm sorry for posting this on the wrong thread, but I wanted to reply to this message by PortKells because I really appreciated the humility and sincere apology even though the apology wasn't even directed towards me.

I think this low might bring some surprises for a select few people. Those people might be on Bowen Island or they might be in Lilloet, but they are people nonetheless.

Re: December 2020 Forecasts and Discussions
00z GFS ensembles look fairly cool into the long range. Splitty and relatively dry.
Looks like no prolonged periods of W/SW flow to blast the cold away so that interior cold pool could last for a while yet. Surface temps on the 00z ensembles for Williams lake, Kamloops and Kelowna show this nicely.

I would have loved to have been at Manning. Epic!
Cypress was crazy busy today. It took me 1 hour to get from the highway to the parking lot and apparently it got worse after that. Up to 30 minute lift lines. Skiing was good though and I managed to get the most vertical to date with the kids. 20 cm of powder in spots.

Re: December 2020 Forecasts and Discussions
Apparently Calgary had 128 crashes thanks to their 20-50 cm of snow (Blast you, Calgary). Also 24 hit and runs! That sounds high even for Lower Mainland Standards.

Man, I can't even tell you how badly I wanted an arctic blast this holiday. But if we get something in early-ish February and its good, I bet we could all get up for that, no matter how repetitive its becoming.Sardisbcwx wrote: ↑Tue Dec 22, 2020 10:55 pm No Mr. Kells l can't take another Feb. event by then my winter enthusiasm is waning.

Re: December 2020 Forecasts and Discussions
Yeah maybe December 2021 will bring the goods. It would be quite the streak if this run of crap Decembers continues any longer.
It always snows in December in the Kootenays
