On this day in 2008, YVR picked up 22.4cm of snow. Many other locales across the region received 30cm+.

Big bust for Abbotsford during that event. But what can I expect anyways?
On a positive note: Abbotsford did really well with the December 24-25th storm. 26 cm fell on the 24th and another 17.4 cm on the 25th.
The February 2017 event was very similar for Abbotsford. On February 3rd, 17 cm fell and then another 20 cm fell on the 24th.

Re: December 2020 Forecasts and Discussions
North shore and the eastern suburbs got hammered with each storm on the 21st/24th/26th. The 21st and 24th storms favoured Metro Vancouver rather than the valley.
Snow depth here in the lower elevations of coquitlam peaked at nearly 70cm in early Jan from what I can recall.

Nah precip was definitely heavy enough.Rubus_Leucodermis wrote: ↑Mon Dec 21, 2020 10:13 pm I think you got skunked mainly due to lack of precip intensity. I’m at about half your elevation and got 6 cm of accumulation.
It always snows in December in the Kootenays

Yeah 2008 was snowy for Abbotsford but not nearly as snowy as other nearby regions. Again, the story of my location.Typeing3 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 21, 2020 11:37 pm North shore and the eastern suburbs got hammered with each storm on the 21st/24th/26th. Re: December 2020 Forecasts and Discussions
Nah, Abbotsford isn't that bad of a location. Extremes vary considerably more than Vancouver and average snowfall is higher too.
You guys often do extremely well when arctic fronts collide with lows dropping down the coast or forming off the island (ex. Jan or Nov '96 or Nov '06) as deformation bands almost always favour the valley.
Another good setup for you guys is when we have a low sitting off the coast with arctic air already in place. February 2017 is probably the most recent example of that.

Sitting just below freezing with clear skies here. If we freeze up this wet snow pack tonight, that should ensure a White Christmas this year.

Good points. I will never forget the November 2006 snowstorm. Some of the highest snow rates I've seen living here.Typeing3 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 22, 2020 12:15 am Nah, Abbotsford isn't that bad of a location. Extremes vary considerably more than Vancouver and average snowfall is higher too.

That was a good one for sure... But December 96 takes the cake for me... It had simply insane snow rates and over 100cm in that storm coupled with crazy wind

Re: December 2020 Forecasts and Discussions
On that note, it rained all day at mt baker ski area yesterday. Seriously! While it snowed here in the valley lol.... What gives?arbetrader wrote: ↑Mon Dec 21, 2020 5:38 pm The webcam only became operational this afternoon - when I checked today at 12pm it was still offline, so no - wasn't able to confirm what was happening throughout the daylight hours.
I find it almost mind boggling there could have been such a huge temperature difference... Causing rain only 10kms southwest of the pass, especially seeing as it's nearly 1000ft higher in elevation.
