In fact, Abbotsford had a significantly higher snow depth in the Dec 96 event then the 08 one despite snow totals being slightly higher in 08. Just much higher snow ratios in 96 because it was so much colder.
Snow depths were higher in Metro Vancouver in 2008. I'd probably give the edge to that winter. Not to take anything away from '96 though; 40-60cm over two days is nothing to scoff at.

Snow depths in 2008 were higher in Metro Van than the Fraser Valley though, at least Abbotsford. I believe the max depth at YXX in 2008 was 49 cm. In 1996, the max depth was 69 cm at YXX.

1996 was incredible, the snow was nearly 1m deep here but I found 2008 more enjoyable.

I was just out putting the horses in the barn and it seems like I got about 2 inches of snow here.

:signofftopic:

So I was just going over the terms and conditions on WeatherModels:
Screen Shot 2019-03-06 at 9.26.44 PM.png

Personally, I find it a bit disappointing that they technically only allow you to share between 5-10 images per day, depending on whether you have a personal or commercial licence. Neither licence technically allows sharing the Euro, though thats not WeatherModels fault, rather the terms and conditions of ECMWF itself. I guess WeatherModels prides itself in its beautiful graphics and wants to promote its subscriptions rather than people sharing them all the time.

Honestly, I think its silly to have these rules in place to begin with because they are essentially unenforceable. Does WeatherModels really monitor every social media account and hobbyist website/forum and calculate how many images per day and which ones are posted?
I suppose they just hope people follow the rules but probably good amount of people are not even aware of or could care less about the rules.

That 69cm was all but gone in 3 days in 1996.

Valid point. So 2008/2009 wins in duration.

The snow in 2008 lasted much, much longer. Well into March. Whereas in 1996 it was pretty much gone by the middle of January.

I don't know, those measurements seem pretty iffy to me. How was there 1 cm on the ground for an entire week despite the temperature being above freezing for 95% of that time?

FWIW, 1990-91 and 1992-93 both had longer lasting snowpacks than 1996-97.

It does seem odd. Did you live there then?

My memory of 1996 was snowcover lasting about a month here. But the snow was unusable and almost unseen. We had a violent windstorm a couple days after the snow stopped and the snowpack was mostly buried under fir needles and branches.
