More like DJF of 2014-2015.

Big time East Coast special.

Totally. Just starting to lose faith in these backloaded winters that revert to eastern ice boxes after advertising the opposite. That's what 2017/2018 was fyi. I'd be down with a repeat of that winter if this ski season wasn't such a covid drag.

This is what I mean about the negativity on here. These two forums are polar opposite. You got the American forum where they keep insisting that a 1950 repeat is in store but then you come here and everyone acts like its going to be a 1999/00 or 2014/15 bust.

Its only December 15th. There is still a solid chance of a SSW. Nina winters are usually backloaded. No reason to shout winter cancel.

I just feel like we need a balance of realism and positivity.

That said, this is a weather forum. We are all friends and have the right to express our hobby in whatever way we want. I just would like to encourage more positivity.

Cheer up? A massive ridge with sunshine and frosty morning is the perfect weather this time of year.

Beats cold rain or slush by a wide margin.

Nothing worse than snow which turns into a slushy icy mess with pooling water.

Edit: The last thing we need is a rainy or snowy day to force us inside this Christmas this year. A sunny day could allow us to see friends and family outside.

I’ve been pretty pessimistic for awhile about our chances this December. Colder and possibly drier January and chilly wet February.

Models still toying with a little wet snow on the north side of the system early next week. Euro has some around Seattle. Gfs has some on S van island. Also a nice shot of chilly air behind it. Could be quite frosty next week.

Respectively disagree. No one is really that negative on here (even Nito - he's just joking around half the time).

Honestly, it's worse on the american forum - they get all wrapped up and emotionally invested in fantasy events that are 10+ days away and when the models shift, many go into depression.

Most people on here are realistic. Do we all want a January 1950 repeat? Of course! If you get your hopes pinned on that though, you'll continually be disappointed.

The fact is, we haven't had a cold January (i.e. average temp below 0c at YVR) since 1993. It's a lot more realistic to forecast climo, because 9/10 times that's what happens.

When people mention analogues like 1998-99 or 1999-00, it's not being negative at all because there's a decent chance this winter does go down that route.
