Special weather statement in effect for:

Metro Vancouver - central including the City of Vancouver Burnaby and New Westminster
Metro Vancouver - North Shore including West Vancouver and North Vancouver
Metro Vancouver - southeast including Surrey and Langley
Metro Vancouver - southwest including Richmond and Delta
Potentially damaging winds Sunday and Monday for the B.C. south coast.

Southeast 50 to 80 km/h winds will develop Sunday afternoon and will sharply veer to northwest 50 to 70 km/h Sunday night or early Monday morning as a strong cold front blasts through southwest B.C.

Exposed coastal sections of northern Vancouver Island will see very strong southeast winds near 80 km/h Sunday afternoon before veering to northwest 50 to 70 km/h in the evening.

Communities on the Sunshine Coast and north of Qualicum Beach on eastern Vancouver Island will feel the effects of the strong southeast winds beginning just before midnight Sunday night. As the cold front treks across, the winds will veer to the northwest at 30 to 50 km/h.

For Metro Vancouver, Southern Gulf Islands and communities in the mouth of Howe Sound, including Bowen Island, the south to southeast winds up to 70 km/h will peak overnight on Sunday and early Monday morning. The wind will veer sharply to the northwest 50 to 70 km/h mid Monday morning before easing in the afternoon.

Lastly, in the wake of the cold front, 70 km/h westerly winds are forecast for the east entrance of Juan de Fuca Strait on Monday which will affect neighbourhoods in Greater Victoria that are typically exposed to the westerly winds in Juan de Fuca Strait.
