He's definitely not the reason people are celebrating. But I don't think Kamala can be blamed for joining up with him. Sometimes you have to do things to make things better. How much power do you really think one person has? Obama would've done so much more if it was politically possible in that country. Kamala should be judged based on what she does with what she has. I can tell you one thing, republicans are terrified that she's the real president elect. I've been surfing their forums a bit...Weather101 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 07, 2020 4:52 pm Trump sucks and I'm not a supporter
But let's not sit here and kid ourselves like Biden is good. This was a vote to get Trump out, What is Biden's plan? Lets not forget Biden has been accused by 8 women of sexual assault and Harris who's the VP now just over a year in a half ago brought that up against him. She called him a creep for smelling young girls hair and touching them inappropriate and says we must stand up for women rights. She went as far as bringing up his accused sexual assault case and now she is running with him? That desperate to get in the white house ? It's horrible.
She also has a horrible track record of keeping innocent people in jail but that's another story.
I wish America could of done better then Trump and Biden as choices.

The bad news is that there are up to 70 million little fascists who still voted fascist, and did so despite the pandemic and the big fascist’s tragic mismanaging of it. Put that in your pipe and smoke it: it’s an ideology so popular that it almost won a second term despite killing hundreds of thousands with its ineptitude.
And that indicates a morally rotten society with little appreciation for liberty and a high chance of electing another fascist in the future… and the odds are the next one won’t be as incompetent as this one.
No fan of trump but to call 70000000 Americans fascist is ridiculous do you even know what fascists are? By the way hitler was a fascist and he was a left socialist!
I am sick of this divisive crap happy trump is gone but not happy with the replacement either

Re: Politics
I don't think Hitler could be considered a lefty. His party's name was just another branch of his propaganda machine.
Trump did look up to a lot of autocratic leaders around the world, I'm just glad he wasn't nearly smart enough to see his plans through. He keeps trying but its clearly over. Biden is better but honestly he's too old for this. The job takes years off your life that he simply doesn't have.
Good to have you back though John.

Re: Politics
Trump is many things but I wouldn't consider him a fascist either.
Overall, Hitler was not left wing (though on the economic scale he was left of centre). His hatred of jews was second to communists, who were actually the first people to be placed in concentration camps.

Looks like they're almost done counting the mail in ballots here in BC. Can't believe it's taken so long.

Re: Politics
Welcome back John
Agreed, calling every person that voted for Trump a fascist is absurd. If you use the same logic then the 75 million that voted for Biden are all Marxists, socialists and communists. Both assumptions are absurd, but there are some on the left who have no problem calling themselves Marxists, and during the US election campaign all those names got tossed around with reckless abandon in the hopes that it sticks and makes a difference in the voting booth. Trump is an egomaniac and schoolyard bully who displays bizarre, immature, and disrespectful behaviour ,an embarrassment to the American people, thus he needed to get the boot. I think why so many people voted for Trump ,especially Christians, was more for his policies as Glacier alluded to,pro-capitalism, pro-life, pro-Israel, etc. Like most elections for alot of people it seems to boil down to plugging your nose and voting for the lesser of two evils or not vote at all .
Here's a good take on Marxists vs Fascists

Agreed with the above. There’s no doubt that many good people are Trump supporters. In my opinion their education was sabotaged and underfunded. They aren’t able to decipher information from disinformation. And there are only two real choices here, keep in mind. Its not a good system by any measure, especially the winner take all for four year fixed terms idea. That should be overhauled.
The one thing I don’t get is how the socialist label sticks. These democrats are further right than probably our Conservative party when it comes to health care, economy, foreign policy and other issues. It’s easy to forget how hard right the USA has leaned since Fox News came around. Aoc wouldn’t be radical at all in this country or Europe.

Re: Politics
It wasn't just misinformation or lack of education that propelled trump to the presidency. The tens of millions of rural americans who have fallen on hard times due to decades of mismanagement or government neglect believed they finally found a voice for them in Trump. Like or hate the man, he found a way to communicate with millions across the American heartland and earned their vote in 2016.PortKells wrote: ↑Tue Nov 10, 2020 12:20 pm Agreed with the above. Why millions would vote for a billionaire (who is as much an elite within the system as Clinton was) truly remains a mystery to me, but he originally came across as an outsider who would shake up the political establishment in favour of the working class.
Ironically, some of his rhetoric (opposing trade deals, bringing back resource development jobs for the working class, rebuilding the transportation system or favouring non-interventionism in parts of the middle east) are traditionally leftist ideals but have been used by countless right-leaning populists in recent decades, as the working class largely began abandoning the left.
The reason the socialist label sticks is because there is a loud vocal minority within the democratic party who are left leaning (Sanders, Cortez, Khanna, etc). They are not socialist by definition but within the mainstream American political system they are considered as radical as the far-right.PortKells wrote: ↑Tue Nov 10, 2020 12:20 pm The one thing I don’t get is how the socialist label sticks. Re: Politics
Agreed with the top paragraphs. But the bottom paragraph kind of proves my point about misinformation. There was no evidence to suggest a socialist agenda. But millions of people bought that idea. Especially minorities who actually increased their voting for Trump. They haven't been educated about what socialism/marxism/communism is.Typeing3 wrote: ↑Tue Nov 10, 2020 2:21 pm It wasn't just misinformation or lack of education that propelled trump to the presidency. The democrats need to figure this out quickly because once that anti Trump sentiment is gone, they'll be right back to the no enthusiasm party. They need more youth and new ideas. I'd like to see Stacey Abrams challenge for 2024 or even that Atlanta mayor who's name escapes me.

Re: Politics
I sincerely hope not. It might be in the hands of people who don't care at all, sadly. I'm starting to think something like calling schools two weeks early and doing online, asking businesses that can afford it to close and people to stay home en masse so we can avoid a super spreader christmas would be a good idea. But I don't think school closure is on the menu at all right now.
As of now I think Bonnie will keep things open and keep pleading her case that people can be responsible without maximum government intervention. I sincerely hope people will listen but I have my doubts.

Re: Politics
I don't know about a lock-down (we never actually had a true lock-down in BC), but I predict more restrictions over the upcoming weeks. There's a 1-2 week lag time between initial contact with the virus and when people test positive, so we're currently seeing the fallout from Halloween. Diwali is this weekend, so we should expect another surge in cases in about two weeks time. Infections will probably peak in late Nov-early Dec, before falling off as we begin to see the effects of mitigation efforts. Christmas will cause another spike, but we won't know how bad until January. We might be able to avoid a full lock-down if people are willing to forgo Christmas get-togethers, but given the amount of COVID fatigue I'm not optimistic that will happen.

Coming back to this post almost two years later and your point was bang on.Abby_wx wrote: ↑Tue Mar 05, 2019 12:15 am It seems like Wilkinson is a very ineffective leader, the exact opposite of what the Liberals need right now. Regardless of how much substance there is to any scandals that may have happened, the party continues to be dogged by a massive image problem. Wilkinson's out of touch comments only reinforce the idea of "business as usual", and do nothing to regain the trust of voters. The party desperately needs some fresh blood and a new vision that resonates with voters, otherwise they're basically handing the NDP/Greens another term.

I did not call 70 million Americans fascist. I called Trump a fascist.
It's called clown range for a reason.
