Winds gusting to 50kts already at CYXX. Attaching a great tool that gives wind direction and speed in knots at airports across Canada. Applicable to us are all the airports in the “Vancouver FIR” slot... enjoy!

That is a great tool!

Nav Canada will be phasing that out shortly and moving to a new interface. Still in the testing phase. They have also been upgrading most wind instruments across most local towers along with temperature readings now being available. Not sure if they plan to make that data publicly available.

Odds are increasing that we turn relatively chilly after day 5 or so.

Where are you seeing 50 kts? I'm not seeing any data there, and the last hourly ob shows 40 kts. It's definitely strong, but not quite 50 kts IMO.

METARs are issued/updates on the hour, so the G40 you’re seeing is what the wind was at the top of the hour, in this case 1300 local, while the LiveRVR page updates every minute. Essentially the METAR gives a macro look of weather at the airport, while LiveRVR gives a micro!

CYXX LiveRVR seems to be down at the moment, hoping it’s back up soon.

Pretty decent wind storm, knocking down a lot of tree foliage and stuff. Decent storm for this time of year.

Uh...Abbotsford is reporting sustained 84? Am I seeing this right?

Edit: 3 PM update seems more reasonable. It was just saying SW 84 km/h on EC, they reported that at 2:31 PM.

Interesting... seems like YXX is having data problems based on what VanCitySouth said above.

There have been techs out at all of the towers lately working on the equipment, so there may be more outages in the interim than usual.

We are without power since 15:00-ish.....
Crazy windy and a lot of gusts.
Had to go to South Surrey this afternoon and as soon as I was past the Sumas flats the winds were easing off.

Looks like Chilliwack got hit the hardest in terms of power outages in the Fraser Valley. My lights in Abbotsford flickered a few times but thats it.
