There was an ominous few hours on Friday morning where you could smell the faint but distinct odor of a forest fire in Bellingham. That was particularly concerning, as it was a windy day after a hot, dry spell. Haven’t smelled it since. Apparently there was a mid/upper level flow from the south that day, so I’m thinking (and hoping) it was probably the smell of a distant fire in Southern Oregon or Northern California.

There was a lot of smoke hanging over the strait of JdF that day from the fire burning on the Olympic peninsula. Perhaps that was it.
