Latest GFS much drier for Thurs/Fri for the Lower Mainland. I was hoping for one more wet system. If we get 2 weeks of hot and dry weather I can see the forest service putting up the campfire bans way earlier than necessary this year to err on the side of caution. The last thing we need is a smoke show like 2017 or 2018.

Unlikely we will see anything close to the large scale wildfires and associated smoke unless we have an intense hot and dry period over the next six weeks. I have attached the fire weather indexes from 2017, 2018, and 2020 as of July 14th:

I went to college in Utah and I recall there were a few days that Hanksville (in a remote and very arid valley with little or no vegetation to speak of; it’s so barren that there is a simulated Mars base in the area) was both the coldest and the warmest spot in Utah. Things like lows in the upper 20’s to low 30’s F and highs in the upper 80’s to low 90’s F come to mind. Typically this would happen in the spring or fall during extended dry periods.

Midsummer troughing is usually meh. Like today, a splash of rain but mostly nice.

Latest GFS is still dry to end the month. Probably no significant precip till at least mid August which is to be expected for this time of year.

Absolutley stunning shot there Rube eye, I've been trying to spot it from my work but there's just to much light pollution. Did you submit the photo to your local paper or even our Global TV weather window would have shown that photo I'm sure. I use an app on my phone to spot in real time where the planets are or when the international space station and hubble telescope fly overtimes are the paid version has more satellites but the free bee is enough for me.
