California has been extremely dry this winter.

They need the rain and mountain snowpack more than us at this point.

Phil shmil, I can understand Dr. Phil better than him I wish he would simplifie it in other words will it get cold or not. I'm not a rocket scientist or I would have invented the wheel.

I know. I asked someone a question over there and he told me he would leave it to Phil to answer. I said:

Its so weird he thinks those posts make any sense. Even if he just used the words instead of the acronyms, maybe we would have a chance to understand it.

California is a lost cause. People should've seen that 30 years ago. I was reading an old article from back in the early 90's and even then, Cali was in almost a perma-drought throughout the 80's. The fact that we import so much food from that place should make us all have second thoughts about the longevity of our civilization. Their agriculture industry has consumed so much water, including a crap ton of ground water, which is causing areas to sink. Then there's the fire situation. Yeesh

Winter is over but it wasn't that bad of a winter.

Next to my love of the Rockies, I’m in awe of the DSW. Been there three separate times. On our honeymoon in early May 2011, the day we were at the Grand Canyon was a mix of sun and heavy snow showers. It was an odd sensation: To have the sun at that high angle felt more intense than it does here in the PNW in early July, yet it was snowing and cold. We only had a week, so we were limited to Grand, Zion, and Bryce Canyon. Yes, desert snow doesn’t last long. But at some of the higher areas of Bryce Canyon (over 9,000 ft.) there were still deep snow drifts that May.

“Looks like snow,” I said to the new kid, one chilly May morning at the bus stop.

“You fool, it doesn’t snow in May.”

“We’ll see.”

The edge of the lower cloud continued its rapid advance. By the time the bus got there, wet flakes were starting to fall. The new kid’s jaw was practically dragging on the ground.

“The second of May, the second of May, I can’t believe it.”

Within five minutes, the ground was turning white. Eight to ten inches fell that day. The next day, the sun came out and it all melted.

A true story, from my years as a teen in northern New Mexico.

He doesn’t even have a meteorology degree. In fact, the formally-trained meteorologists I’m aware of are all better at explaining things in understandable terms than he is. I don’t think even 5% of the readers on the AF know what he is talking about. (Most of the time, I don’t.) From the standpoint of sharing knowledge, his posts are therefore basically useless.

I would love a few crisp dry days, especially going into next weekend. Might actually be dry enough to consider a back 9 on Saturday!
