Through day 7, 0z ensembles actually look to have improved a tad over the 18z.

I think Nito figured out to hack into the OP GFS. Hasn't had much success of late with the ensembles though.

I don't know.
But all I know is is that the GFS cannot be trusted at such a stage. It still hasn't caught on.
I mean, since when has the GFS "outsmarted" the other models, especially the ECMWF?

The ensemble mean is nearly 12C colder than the operational by January 7th.
