It seems you don't know Nito. He is known as Heatmiser/Drymiser here.

ECMWF weeklies looked putrid. Split flow pattern continues but we may see more backdoor arctic intrusions by early to mid Jan. Overall...just looks dry with no real mountain snow.

We'll see....

I believe it, I lived there during the 90's and I remember it being frigid and snowy in the winter. Though I was a child back then, so 10 cm of snow looked like a foot to me

Yes, but you can't compare both climates. Standard deviations are very much higher in the East.
I mean, in the East, the annual extreme minimum is almost always close to the all-time extreme minimum. Here, we are almost always very far of it. I don't know if you understand/I am clear?

I understand what you're saying.

However...it would be foolworthy to deny the simple fact that *relative to average*, the west coast has suffered from a dearth of significant arctic blasts over the past two decades compared with locales to the east.

I agree. But you know it's more difficult to have one down here. Nevertheless, our time will come... ;)

So far, there's no evidence that this is going to be a good month for mountain snow. So I refuse to be either optimistic and say it's going to be a good month, or pessimistic and say it's going to continue to be sucky/dry/splitty/ridgy.

I seem to recall a long stretch of snowy and cold in 91 and then again in 96. Although I do remember a cold night in the Similkameen at -38 just North of Princeton about 9 years ago. Prolly mid Jan?
