1) ensembles are showing some possibilities as head toward FEB. Perhaps some dry/cool weather as we get brushed by the arctic airmass to our East, and then things shift west and we turn colder.

2) #FEB has a decent track record of delivering some winter weather. We have #climo on our side!

OR maybe we’ll get more &@#% drizzle.

Dry and ridgy the rest of the month before models show a historic arctic outbreak for early Feb.

Models bust again we see more ridging until mid-late Feb before the GOA vortex brings some much needed mild rain.

More ridging in early March with some +14C days followed by a chilly zonal flow.

We finally get hit with a polar airmass by late March and early April where we finally see our first wet snowfall during some nights which don't accumulate.

April, May and early June will be cool and wet before our usual drought along with forest fire activity leads to hot and smokey weather through October.

Moderate El Nino means very mild and wet November, December and January before we see a ridgy mild Feb and March in 2026.

Our climate finally sees a cold and snowy January in 2058 when Yellowstone finally erupts sending us into a volcanic winter.

I don’t even think a truly cold spring is doable anymore. Otherwise, probably accurate.

The one thing that is LOVING this weather is the moss. Have a look at any north facing surface.

Looks like Sunday/Monday would be cold enough to support snow at sea level, but it dries out instead

Could be similar to late January 1963. Dry and chilly end to the month. Some 4c/‐4c type days on tap. Pretty nice given the context of this winter.

Ridge-uary. Not good for snowpack, it's only at 87% province wide average. It would be really bad to have another low snow year. The models have locked on to an amplified, blocking pattern very much like winter 2001, going way back. A weak La Nina is no good for us. Too much ridging. Better to be neutral.

January 1985 at 28.2 mm is the driest January on record at YV.R Other dry January's include 1963 and 1993. In the case of 1993,it was followed by the driest February on record. I remember that year. I was in high school. Yes I'm.old. it was actually a great winter.Lots of snow on the ground from December storms and it remained on the ground for much of the month of January 1993 due to cold temps. A little warm, wet spell at the end of the Jan 1993 then February was cold, bone dry, and crisp! That was a fantastic winter.
We're in a weather whiplash right now after such a wet year overall and such a wet pattern, now we're into dry just like that. It's so weird. YVR is showing a monthly total of 21.2mm Although that may not include today's rainfall. Even so I highly doubt we would break a record this month for the driest January. That would mean basically 3 weeks with no precep, which is very rare.Almost unprecedented for this time of year.

Maybe that’s the ticket. We need a record breaking dry January. Then the following year we’ll get record cold.

January 1949…. January 1950
