This winter so far in a nutshell. Grasping at an estranged webcam in upper Chilliwack just to get a glimpse of something that somewhat resembles snow. Thankfully Mrs. Bear's family is from Ontario and so we got to have a white Christmas afterall!

Looks like a bit of a slush fest for their standards, better than nothing though.

Looks like it goes off the rails. the earlier the better as far as higher sun angles and so forth.
The 7th annual snowfall contest is canceled due to no snow this winter.

The 18 GFS Ensembles speeds up the timing of the pattern change. I'd like to see the EPS trend this direction before getting too excited.

Edit: That west based -NAO is sure nice to look at.

...but why not me??? :( No snow, not even a flake here yet this winter.

Well at least someone is getting snow...and they probably don't even appreciate it.

Need to completely kill the Aleutian low and replace it with a GOA high for any chance at a good wintry pattern, which is essentially what that map shows.

Still a ways out though -- we also had a fake out in early December when the ensembles looked promising in the day 10-15 range.

All three main ensemble suites (GFS/Euro/CMC) show a favourable trend with an amplifying NPAC ridge merging with a -NAO forming a ridge bridge. If the ensembles are correct, we should see better trends on the deterministic runs once the pacific energy begins to fade. As of now, the deterministic models continue to be influenced by the Aleutian low, which is wiped out in the most recent clown range ensemble runs. To be honest, I’m starting to think there is a legit chance we might be able to score in the last week of January. Time will tell. :shh: :silent:

Quite the COF pattern being shown in the longer range on the 00z Gfs.
