Still looks pretty progressive to me but a cool down later in January is looking very likely

There was a snow threat overnight but fortunately precip got shredded. Temps have since gradually moderated which now means we will see plain old rain later.

12Z Euro has some fairly low snow levels around 15 days from now!

Cooler 2nd half/end of Jan has been shown on the longer range ensembles for a while now. OPs are starting to toy with the idea.

It also had some pretty warm air around for the end of next week. Not even the cold and snowy Similkameeeenz can escape the :blowtor:

It’s easy to get discouraged after all this terrible weather but the signals are there.

Again, I understand the frustration but It's only just recently started to look promising in that range. Not sure it'll turn into anything but the ridge retrograding has not been a feature within 15 days until about last night.

The longer range ensembles (GEFS, Weeklies) have been showing this for a bit now.

Some of the shorter term ensembles and OP runs are now toying with the same idea as later January is getting into their 15 day range.

Again, could mean absolute nothing this far out.

But it does give us a time period to watch.

Happy new year everyone!

Who else was getting flurries this morning? Had a nice flurry for about 20 minutes at my place. Too warm to stick though. Still, nice to see ;)

Weeklies just came out. Still going with the similar idea it has had for a while.

Some encouraging signs today with more models starting to come onboard with the idea of an increased chance that we at least trend cooler toward the end of the month... and perhaps finally break out of this stupid #patternlock.
