Even the CFS has now flipped and is now showing an El Nino -like January. Think it may be time to look forward to spring

Mild and wet and then mild and dry through late Feb. I suspect April, May and June will be cold and rainy before we burn to death by July.

Woof. Our run of good winters might be hitting the skids.

So far, the 1966-67 and 2005-06 analogues certainly appear to be bang on.

We were absolutely due for a stinker of a period. 2014-2016 was a decade ago.

January is still in play but I think we are following last years pattern development with no real signs of a prolonged cold period. Good news is last January still delivered a decent snowstorm in the midst of what was supposed to be a torch.

To be fair, we've also had it pretty bad more recently than that as well.

YVR recorded three snowless Decembers in a row for the first time in recorded history in 2018, 2019, and 2020.

And of course, we still haven't had a cold January since 1993.

To be fair...I don't think we can compare the climate to pre-2010 anymore. New standard is maybe 2-3 snowfalls per winter and 1-2 arctic blasts. West Coast Ridging has been dominant and we've seen a significant decrease in Maritime Polar airmasses.
