Debrusk, Heinen, Sherwood, Forbert,.. Nice haul by Canucks on free agent frenzy day. Do not think they overpaid on anybody, unlike some of the other teams . I believe Tocchet will get the most out of those guys, and those 3 forwards already have good speed. I'd give the Canucks an A for today's signings, makes up for all the picks/prospects that they gave up for Lindholm and Zadorov.

It's like a revolving door let's see how we do with these guy's. To me it's like how will they jell as a team. Last year it worked out awesome they entertained me during an El Nino winter. I'll be skeptical this season however this year we have La Nina to keep me entertained.

You are 100 percent right. He's a great player; we should have kept him.AbbyJr wrote: ↑Sat Jun 29, 2024 9:23 pm Personally, I feel that letting Zadorov go to free agency was a bad idea. In my opinion, he is underrated by many and therefore, I don't think giving him a 6/6 deal would have been overpaying. You need a guy like him in the playoffs. The Canucks may take a step back next season if they can't replace him. That said, I don't know what management has planned come free agency, so maybe it will all work out for the best. Time will tell.

Re: Sports Talk
I disagree. Zadorov is the playoff player you need. Some players excel in those environments. You guys have ghosts thinking everyone is an overpayment due to OEL.Forrest Gump wrote: ↑Sun Jun 30, 2024 5:14 pm Don't need another money for nothing pucks for free player like LE or OEL or even Myers previous contract ($6M x 5). I think Zadorov disappears for parts of the regular season, maybe that's why most have him slotted as a 5/6 defenceman. Those defensemen can usually be had for under $3M per. Not really thrilled with Petey's contract either, but he definitely needs better offensive players to play with as Sardineman alluded to.

You are most likely correct. However it sucks seeing a fan favourite walk no matter how much it makes sense.Forrest Gump wrote: ↑Mon Jul 01, 2024 10:53 am Debrusk, Heinen, Sherwood, Forbert,.. Re: Sports Talk
Agreed. Zadorov is highly underrated in my opinion. Personally, I think the Canucks should have given him the term he wanted. He signed for 5 million 6 years with the Bruins. I don't see why the Canucks wouldn't match that. He's not a guy that's easily replaceable. If the term is the issue, why did we sign Myers for 3 years at 34 years old? Zadorov will still be younger after his 6 year term expires in Boston. Makes no sense at all.Weather101 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 03, 2024 5:10 am I disagree. Zadorov is the playoff player you need. Re: Sports Talk
Most analysts consider Zadorov to be a 3rd pairing D-man, and I presume so does the Canucks coaching staff with Hughes and Soucy rated ahead of him on the left side, so management would be out of theirs minds to fork out that kind of dough/term for a 3rd pairing. Having said that it might've been a different story if he was a right shot D-man, as they seem to be alot more valuable. 3 D, Myers/Forbert/Desharnais at $6.5M per vs 1D at $5M per with longer term is not bad at all. Don't forget Canucks will get dinged alot higher in the next few years for the OEL buyout, I think something like $4M each year. Would I have liked to see Zadorov stay? Of course.AbbyJr wrote: ↑Wed Jul 03, 2024 11:26 am Agreed. Zadorov is highly underrated in my opinion. Personally, I think the Canucks should have given him the term he wanted. Re: Sports Talk
Yes, not a soccer guy but it did seem fairly entertaining ,as I find the sport boring for the most part, and that Portugal/France sure was . I thought if it went to a shootout we'd lose. Should've had 3 or 4 goals in regulation, maybe too many Mikheyevs, not enough Boesers.

Re: Sports Talk
It was highly entertaining compared to the average match. Argentina will be a different beast but it should still be highly entertaining and relatively offensive.Forrest Gump wrote: ↑Sat Jul 06, 2024 11:19 am Yes, not a soccer guy but it did seem fairly entertaining ,as I find the sport boring for the most part, and that Portugal/France sure was . Re: Sports Talk
Heartbreaking loss to Uruguay in the 3rd place match, but for any long term followers of the national team, this kind of game was not even fathomable even five years ago. The improvement and depth in such a short timespan is nothing short of extraordinary. Ever since 2017 or so, we've seen plenty of up's and downs but the path of gradual improvement is clear.
Getting out of the group of the Copa America was already an accomplishment, and getting to the semi finals was a dream. The chances are already there in every game, if the finishing and composure in front of net can be worked at, then Canada can cause some serious damage when facing any other national side, even if they are a traditional powerhouse like Uruguay today.
Feeling good for our chances of finally winning some silverware at the Gold Cup next summer!

Typing man, where has this resurgence of Canadian Men's soccer come from? Better investment in developing younger players? Or something else? I'm only a casual observer, so my knowledge is quite limited.
