It's been only three years since the deadliest weather event in Canadian history (600+ human deaths, untold animals and ecosystem death) scorched the PNW. The day after an entire town burned down, the beautiful and historical Lytton. Then we sucked on noxious and continuous smoke fumes which gives people horrible health problems including people here on this forum.

And despite all that, you'll see people wishcasting that exact weather again. Never fails to boggle my mind.

Every few years we still manage to eke out a half decent, average stretch of summer weather and people act like its the Day After Tomorrow. After this few days of beautiful sunshine I can't wait for a bit of rain! Going to be so refreshing.

Personally, I don't know anyone nor have I seen any social media posts where people are wishing for a repeat of the late June 2021 heatwave.

Personally, I don't know anyone nor have I seen any social media posts where people are wishing for a repeat of the late June 2021 heatwave.

Me neither! That was a terrible event that won’t be repeated in our lifetimes that’s a given!

I guess the question you could ask yourself is :
What am I doing to be a positive influence on the people around me especially those in need of extra help!?


It’s easy to to blame government and organizations but real change starts by yourself imo.

But how are we supposed to stop heat domes? We can't, especially when people blatantly flaunt anti-climate propaganda. We as individuals can't do anything, but when we as individuals can see seven days out that something dangerous is coming, then the government can prepare. More cooling centers, hand out water on the streets like they do in Toronto. They have vans that pick up people who are elderly and vulnerable and take them to cooling centers. So yes, the government can do a lot more, especially when we are taxed so heavily.

John, you can't say what won't happen again in our lifetimes. That's a very dangerous statement with nothing backing it up. You can see extreme heat domes all the time just to our south that, with a bit of unfortunate tweaking, could land on us.

With a warming climate year by year, the odds are it will happen again and more frequently. People tend to forget that you don't need a killer heat dome to make people sick or, worse, cause death. But prolonged periods of hot weather, even though they're not extreme, have a profound effect on the body.
I understand that some people don't believe in science, and that's fine. But we have to be careful how we word things.

Unfortunately there is a view out there that certain demographics aren't really a big loss given they were heading out soon anyways. However I view it as the way they went out was terrible and unnecessary - no AC in senior's homes, no extra ambulances (shoutout to EC's ultra conservative reporting on the event in the face of overwhelming evidence) and a lack of care for those who need it the most.

Seniors suffered immensely and yet I've never seen so little reporting for such a dramatically tragic event right here in our back yard. I vividly remember seeing an old couple suffering in the parking lot near Colussus, like they had nowhere else to go. The whole thing left a pretty disgusting taste in my mouth. Some of that can be blamed on lack of extreme heat history here but that's where you need to believe in the science to make proper decisions moving forward - there WILL be more such extreme events and it's a matter of time.

People don't care until it happens to one of their loved ones, unfortunately. What they also don't think of is that when they are elderly, they won't want to die; they would want to live as long as they possibly can. My grandparents had no air conditioning, and we had to bring them to one of our houses because they were suffering terribly.

It's just unfortunate that despite the data and proof of these events happening not only all over the world but in our own backyard, some still deny it for whatever reason or motive they have.

The annual family fireworks display. These are great memories as a family and my kids. There was a train of storms this am with a line from Golden aimed right at Lacombe. It’s now muggy out.

Yes. Well for starters, I’ve stopped flying, not having kids, I take transit to work, I live on a farm where we grow our own food as well as for the neighborhood and I live in a tiny house. I shop local as much as possible. Thereby reducing my foot print by magnitudes.

I’ll also mention that in the days prior to the heat dome I sent out more warnings on my social media than environment Canada ever did. I was active on the farm helping animals survive. I checked in on elderly relatives.

Other than that I try to spread the word to those around me that climate change is real and it has and will affect all of us. If you have any suggestions of more ways I can contribute I’d love to hear them!!

Yes, the odds have gone up with the warming climate I agree! But it’s still a very minimal chance of getting a June 21 repeat
