Snowed_in wrote: Mon Dec 02, 2019 10:23 am There are a million reasons to be positive (its Dec 2) but I dont think hanging our hopes on an epic January is one. Was it last January or jan 2017 that was hyped up for months and everything ended up being east based with all the bomb cyclones and noreasters? I remember the disappointment here. I just hope we can get a half decent ski season and a snow event. Anything else is gravy. I think we can all agree this splitty ridginess is a little disappointing so far based on how the previous few months have played out with troughs hitting us fairly consistently since about February.
It was Jan 2018. I recall the last week of Dec 2017 and the opening two or three weeks of January were brutally cold in the east. Many new cold records set.

Lots of warm rain for us in the PNW during that period.

I think WA/OR will see an absolute lousy snowpack this winter.

We did have a white Chistmas though December 2017 as there was 5cm of snow on the ground in Surrey.
Why not try cycling to work, grocery store, anywhere!

Yeah we did. The last week of Dec wasn't too bad. The valley also had a fairly significant ice storm to close out the month.

As we flipped the calendar into January however...we didn't see much other than lots of mild rain.

Actually the last half was chilly. Even saw flakes around the 19th or so.
