Too bad Prince George has air quality issues and uh...other issues. Pretty nice climate. Looking good there this week.
It always snows in December in the Kootenays

You can see signs of a historic arctic blast taking shape....for the Eastern half of the country. SSW event for 2nd half of the month with a strong +PNA signal as well.

Complete write off for the ski-season shaping up here. Wouldn't bother looking at the models the next 2 weeks.

And the funny thing is, these model runs are a virtual lock if they show crap for us. Funny how that works!

Gfs could just be off it’s rocker with that ridge during week 2. EPS and GEM plow the westerlies in here with a big mountain snow pattern. If we are in an El Niño pattern than historically late December and early January would be the period to watch for cold and snow here.

There are a million reasons to be positive (its Dec 2) but I dont think hanging our hopes on an epic January is one. Was it last January or jan 2017 that was hyped up for months and everything ended up being east based with all the bomb cyclones and noreasters? I remember the disappointment here. I just hope we can get a half decent ski season and a snow event. Anything else is gravy. I think we can all agree this splitty ridginess is a little disappointing so far based on how the previous few months have played out with troughs hitting us fairly consistently since about February.

Could still see low land snow end of month but the cards are stacked against a good Dec ski period overall (for the record...lowland snow patterns have not yielded good mountain snow in recent years. We want cold and wet but not too cold.

I think WA/OR will see an absolute lousy snowpack this winter.
