 I just learned that one of the two water lines to my kitchen sink now contains water in its solid state.
It's called clown range for a reason.

Thankfully that is the landlord’s problem and not mine.

Alberta telling people not to charge electric vehicles. 🤔

Just joking. Sounds pretty serious.

Haven’t they been doing rotating blackouts in Dease lake area?
Avoid energy use in the peak times of 5-8pm. Sounds like 2 large natural gas generators are offline and low renewable energy as well. Alberta likely doesn't have a lot of storage either in the form of pumped storage or batteries.

Already emailed him and I'm 98% sure the issue is where it passes through the washer/dryer closet. Dryer vent lets cold air in, and I normally keep the door closed, so the closet is not heated. Now have the door propped open and am using a fan to circulate heated air into that space.

Definitely where it passes through the washer/dryer area is the issue.

It’s gotta be. Cabinet under the kitchen sink is the other big one, but the kitchen area is half-underground, so no part of that exterior area can be below freezing. I was actually shocked when no hot water came out, because I had only thought of the pipes in the sink area, not where they were otherwise being routed to get there.

This did not happen in 2021, but low temperatures IMBY have been a notch colder with this event. Plus I may have just done laundry at a critical point then and interrupted the freezing process.

It’s all PEX pipe, and from what I have just read, PEX pipes are less likely to burst than copper ones when they freeze, so hopefully all I need to do at this point is wait. At least I still have cold water available at the sink; can always heat a big pot of it on the stove if I need hot water.

Needless to say I am now letting the cold tap run.
