This is what you can look forward to in Ottawa buddyAbbyJr wrote: ↑Fri Jan 12, 2024 9:04 pm Thanks for the kind words. It means a lot.
Don't worry, I'll still be active on here on a regular basis providing forecasts for both the PNW as well as my new location in Ottawa.
I do expect a lot of when the December 1968/69 repeat occurs in the PNW during my first winter in Ottawa.
( forecast is for today )

This is curious. Observations at Kelowna. Even if the 24h observation is from 10-10, the low doesn’t make sense.

Re: January 2024 Forecasts and Discussions
Strange.,. I wonder if the data from yesterday was not being updated yet. It's sometimes frustrating to see this happen, It used to be (at yxx) that the daily weather records would sometimes not update properly and cause the monthly data to disappear, or show erroneous data, which skews the weather averages when compiling historic weather data. December 1992/January 93 has many missing data entries causing this. There are a few others as well.

Re: January 2024 Forecasts and Discussions
It gets stranger. Here’s the observation on Dec 22, 2022 at 7am in Kelowna.Official temp recorded, however, was -26.6. would have been the coldest observation in December there since 1990 if it was as cold as the my screenshot suggested. The local media ran a story that I thought was inaccurate. I messaged them about the 7am observation. Their response was that EC noted that reading wasn’t correct. A garbage in garbage out entity.

Ah ah, that's because the high/low shown are from Kelowna UBCO, not the airport...
Yeah, the hourly data is from the airport, but not the extremes. You need to look for the other station (airport) manually to see the daily data. That's EC. I know this website perfectly well...

Just checked my station’s minimum and actually I beat yesterday. This morning’s low was -13.8˚C.
It's called clown range for a reason.

Re: January 2024 Forecasts and Discussions
Several of my family/extended family drove up to a funeral yesterday in Kelowna for one of our extended relatives. My sister reported the car thermometer saying it dropped to -38 at the top on the way there. The funeral is today but I'm still very unsure how they will do this with how cold it is.
I'm just thinking and wondering about something out loud. There could be a development where I turn the overall BCStorms property into some sort of a business and bring everything to performant/scalable servers. If I did this that would include the bringing the forum over and it would/should become something that loads much more quickly. I would want to have the forum basically untouched where it's a free community for people to participate. I don't know any details yet. I have extensive CRM development experience and I was laid off a couple months back. The CRM was very scalable and I basically played a role in writing code for every part of it for the last 2.5 years. I'm currently contracting basically full-time for someone else, but I have ideas where I would like to sell subscriptions to people, maybe for fleet management especially if it involves industries with weather.
I was thinking I could possibly sell CRM subscriptions to snow removal companies and perhaps I could somehow get the model data downloaded multiple times/day into the CRM where it would send sms alerts out to snow fleet removal companies (or emails) and alert them about possibilities. What I just described is a very small part of my ideas I'm thinking. I have a passion for weather, I am good and have experience with development of CRMs at extremely large scale, I just need the time and income to make it happen. Sorry for taking the thread off-topic for a moment. It's sort of on topic at the same time

Those missing days were recorded in 1992-93, but just do not show up on the daily data page.arbetrader wrote: ↑Sat Jan 13, 2024 7:04 am Strange.,. Case in point, at YVR, you can see the mean temp in January 1993 is -0.5c on the daily data page, but on the monthly data page it is -0.4c. The two missing days were from the 3rd and 4th, when 24.7cm.of snow fell, which are included on the monthly data page but not the daily data page, hence the slight difference in monthly mean temp when comparing the two.
