We had a couple of reloads it warmed abit in week 3 and then on March 1st we got hit with a Lion of a Arctic blast with snow and cold for afew day's.
The 7th annual snowfall contest is canceled due to no snow this winter.

Typeing3 wrote: Fri Jan 12, 2024 8:22 pm Definitely helped that the cool water temps preceding the cold snap meant the lakes were primed to freeze as Jan 1989 was a chilly and wet/slushy, and at times snowy, month. Similar in December 2021 with a cool pattern prior to the arctic blast.

On the flip side, this winter has been extremely mild so water temps are running very warm. Despite the temps being comparable or even cooler than Feb '89 it will take longer for lakes to freeze up which remains to be seen. There's a chance as we will remain below freezing until Tuesday.
I'm not going on any lakes here lol- the nearest lake is probably 75 ft deep. Good acre lake is a man made enhancement of a swamp that probably doesn't get more than 5-6 ft deep. The ice in 89 was 5 inches thick- i doubt the ice here would be more than a centimeter thick . It'll be nice to walk on the frozen trail though; it's been mud and streams lately.

Currently -12.9c

Looks like many stations in Southern BC are right around their forecasted lows already.

The 00Z GEM pushes Tuesday nights low south limiting snowfall to a few cm's. However, it also keeps us at or below freezing through next Thursday.

Yes you were correct, but remember Jr. Man called for a Arctic outbreak in January due to the SSW that was like back in early December he nailed this event he wasn't sure how strong but he's learning to predict very well we will miss him once he leaves for Ottawa. :(
