18z EPS is pretty good with the first trough. Not a lot of cold air available, but the pattern is promising.

The 18z GEFS was solidly chilly. Not arctic, but cool enough for snow depending on the dynamics at play.

NYE mountain biking on bare dirt in Prince George. I didn't think that this would be possible.

I mean this is the end of the line but the 18z GEFS does end in a good spot.

While I initially thought a SSW would favour the east for cold given the strong El Niño, based on the 500mb pattern shown on some of the models, there is definitely potential for the PNW to get in on the cold. Now if we can pull off a major SSW/PV split, then I think there is a good chance any cold we do get could lock in for a while. But it's still way too early to get excited. But maybe just maybe January will deliver this winter? We can dream.

December ended up slightly above normal for rainfall. Normal is 158mm at YVR. Nov and October were drier than normal, but nothing alarming. Upper Coquitlam got lots of rain.
