Something to consider would be moving orchards up the hills and bringing irrigation systems up to the higher levels and developing slightly above the valley floor? The orchards are usually have a humid microclimate with all the ground level moisture and could serve as a green buffer zone.

The goal should be at limiting migration. We keep bringing people in with no real plan and the end result is the population dispersing into rural or remote areas seeking a quality of life that's quickly eroding. This is happening way too rapidly.
Orchards have mostly gone the way of the dodo in Kelowna. I grew up with one across the street from me...its now Grizzli winery, a fancy place aimed towards wealthy chinese tour busses. I don't actually know if the wine was grown or made here in Canada. The merch aisles are full of touristy items like maple syrup and Canada themed shirts. Other orchards have mostly converted to grapes, as one makes money and the other doesn't.

As for immigration, well you can't stop pumping the thing that's artificially propping up the economy and housing prices. PP and JT are both quite pro immigration. But even if you did, there's going to be refugees by the millions as areas close to the equator or on low lying seaside areas become uninhabitable. There's going to be people coming here. I am personally pro immigration but like you said there's no plan right now, housing isn't being built and that which is often gets scooped up by mega corporations and left empty.

These are among the reasons my wife and I have chosen to be childfree. There's just not going to be quality of life around here for the next generation except for the super wealthy.

Surface smoke is hanging on tight here in east Coquitlam. Also saw some small bits of ash on the cars earlier.

21.0ËšC at 4:00 PM (basically the heat of the afternoon) here. Smoke is cutting off most of the Sun and making temperatures underperform.
It's called clown range for a reason.

Just yesterday I read an interesting article about how elevated water levels in the Salton Sea results in an increased risk of earthquakes. Probably pretty coincidental, but right on cue thanks to tropical storm Hilary....

This is absolutely despicable and outrageous if true. Somebody is actually stealing the firefighting equipment? :x :x :x

What I found was the spider webs in the yard have ash covering them caught in the web. Looks kinda neat.

People like this need to be caught and hung in public for the public to give them a public whipping.

It's pretty baffling. Putting aside how terrible it is, what use or value would anyone else have with that stuff?

That was my first thought too. To be fair, the article did say the equipment was either stolen or moved. Perhaps it was innocently moved without any malicious purpose? One can only hope although regardless, it shouldn't be moved without proper communication.

I'm just really hoping its not just some random criminal stealing it because that is despicable and outrageous.

A theory I saw floated around was people saw the equipment unattended and then used it to fight fires in their neighbourhoods. I guess that has happened before.

Edit: I don't know if this is actually the case.
