It’s still pretty smoke free here at ground level last I checked. Probably won’t be in the next hour or so.

Re: August 2023 Forecasts and Discussions
Hawk and John are allowed to comment absolute nonsense for years and nothing ever happens to those guys. Hawk is one of the most notorious offenders on here. JR is allowed to spout nonsense about climate change but when Weather101 points stuff out it gets deleted? That's not right.Leighbugs wrote: ↑Sat Aug 19, 2023 6:56 pm Not sure what you think has been allowed for years. All I know is that for years there's not been much drama on this group and the goal is to keep it that way. Whenever someone cannot refrain from bringing drama or talking about the drama endlessly, those posts are going to be deleted. There's nothing productive or valuable about such posts. As such, they are deleted. Opinions are NOT deleted when they pertain to weather, even if said opinion is not popular. We are allowed our opinions and to have rational discussion about the weather. But when things get personal- it's gone too far. Rude posts targeting the opinion of others ARE deleted. Belittling posts like eye-rolling somebody...deleted. Emotional and angry posts directed to members- deleted. Accusatory posts- deleted. Bringing up the drama repeatedly- deleted.
Having reasonable discussion calmly with someone whose opinion you don't agree with but still pertains to weather- NOT deleted.
This is why taking a break is recommended. Nothing is accomplished by angry posting. It just gets more stuff deleted and serves zero purpose.
It has been going on for years. It's one of the reasons I don't post allowed. You either moderate fairly or don't do it. Bogus that W101 is being censored.

Lol you actually banned the guy. Ridiculous. This community is going downhill, and it's not because of guys like W101.Leighbugs wrote: ↑Sat Aug 19, 2023 11:51 pm Weather101 is now banned for a day.
For the record, his deleted posts are either rude to members or admin, calling people names that I won't re-type here, refusing to stop stirring up drama after being requested to several times and just generally being unable to LET. IT. GO.
Now, I really AM Elsa in my profile pic.
LET IT GO...LET IT GOOOOO!
Great job moderating team. You guys deserve a round of applause for doing things completely backwards. Well done

I'm not addressing this any longer. He doesn't get to call other members a little "B*tch."
PERIOD.
He is banned for a day until he calms down. This is after being REPEATEDLY warned for hours and hours. Post after post.
The discussion about this is over.
I'm not deleting your posts but I will if you don't drop it. Followed by a ban. I've been super patient all day but I'm not messing around.
We are here for weather, not to discuss forum nonsense.

Would have to agree with Ovenman, John and his o.k. one liners and rolling eyes isn't that belittling me and nothing is said to him.Ovonucks wrote: ↑Sun Aug 20, 2023 3:32 am Hawk and John are allowed to comment absolute nonsense for years and nothing ever happens to those guys. And if there's going to be fairness l go off topic too but what happened to keeping climate change in the Climate change thread l don't blame Ms. Sunshinecoast girl for stepping out.

Sounds good but can we please drop the climate change in the Current weather conditions thread please.Leighbugs wrote: ↑Sun Aug 20, 2023 4:12 am I'm not addressing this any longer. He doesn't get to call other members a little "B*tch."

Re: August 2023 Forecasts and Discussions
Listen, I am all for people sharing opinions. Climate change seems to be a big trigger for people. But people are allowed opinions even if it's not agreed upon by all or even anyone else here. Weather101 is not banned because he didn't agree. He is banned because he would NOT stop belittling people, being beligerant, swearing at members etc. He was asked to move on MANY times over. Everyone here cannot see the MANY posts that were deleted...deleted in an effort to keep the peace because he was calling out other members by name and what does that serve? That would only antagonize the other members and keep this nonsense going.
I wanted to end this hours ago. That's why I told weather101 to take a break and cool off. The problem and the arguments would have ceased if he would have taken a deep breath and stopped.
I assume my "job" as mod is to keep the peace. That's what I'm supposed to do. Arguing over who is right and who is wrong takes up forum space for NO reason. Weather101 was banned for 24 hours after numerous warnings including telling him that's what would happen if he didn't stop...and then he posted again. So, I'm true to my word. The goal for me is to limit drama. Because that's what mods are supposed to do.
It's true, I haven't been here as much lately. But I'm here because of what our province is currently facing and when I signed on earlier, I was the only mod present to deal with the situation. So I did.
I agree that it seems many people are tired of the climate change discussions as it can be a polarizing topic. I don't know what can be done since afterall, this is a weather forum- it's bound to come up. As such, I don't aim to police opinions...but when people start getting nasty, I'm not sure what everyone thinks a moderator is supposed to do besides get rid of nasty posts and ask members making such posts to please refrain.

Re: August 2023 Forecasts and Discussions
I am cool with that. Personally, I try to get triggered about the issues, since it's not my right to tell others what to think. Therefore, the posts about climate change don't bother me. There are some things I will never share my opinion on though because no matter what, someone will not agree and not everyone is capable of letting things slide. Today is a prime example of that.SouthSardiswx wrote: ↑Sun Aug 20, 2023 4:19 am Sounds good but can we please drop the climate change in the Current weather conditions thread please.
I definitely understand some people don't want to see that discussed in the main thread. I suppose we could see what other members think? As I said, I don't care either way, besides doing what makes the majority here happy.

Re: August 2023 Forecasts and Discussions
And finally...ome more thing because I want to clarify the numerous things that keep coming up. As for other members and why they got away with (fill in the blank.) I can just say, I don't know. Because it's true, I haven't been here much lately due to, well...life. I hope to change that. All I know is I logged in today and it was turning into a war here and since I didn't see any other mods here at the time, I figured I would try and deal with it. I am pretty open-minded and pretty fair, I think. My main belief is that everyone deserves respect, even if we disagree. Once respect goes out the window, it's time to step in.
That being said, I suppose I could have just not taken any action at all. Perhaps I am wrong in doing so. If I am, I apologize. But I was torn when I came on here and saw things going quickly downhill, so I intervened. If I should have left it for a different mod, I do apologize. I really was trying to be helpful and keep this place peaceful but unfortunately, I was met with endless resistance. I am willing to listen if people don't agree with me though and I am not above constructive criticism when it's given respectfully.

I have a feeling that this winter will feature a bad ski season considering the record warm waters now off our coast and I bought a season pass

is staying overhead for the most part. It is now very thick and this morning is effectively overcast due to it. AQI at the surface is only moderate. It smelled worse of smoke at midnight than it does now.
It's called clown range for a reason.

Unfortunately, deciduous trees wouldn't stand a chance in that climate. Just too dry and windy.Monty wrote: ↑Sat Aug 19, 2023 11:26 pm I had thought of the fuel free buffer idea surrounding towns in the interior. I had not considered the erosion and mud slide issue before, though. Perhaps a forest that consists of more deciduous trees in the perimeter of these towns instead. I have read that fires move much slower through deciduous trees than through dried out evergreens. And they have experimented with planting blocks of deciduous trees in fire prone areas in an attempt to slow down wild fire movement.

Seems to be worse the further east you go. Surface visibility is decent but not great and the smell is still very much there. Definitely better now than how it was at 4am though when it was thick and looked like fog.Rubus_Leucodermis wrote: ↑Sun Aug 20, 2023 8:46 am is staying overhead for the most part. Re: August 2023 Forecasts and Discussions
This, plus deciduous trees are not a panacea. I have seen fire rip through deciduous portions of mixed forest near I-5. Anything can burn if it is drought stressed and a hot fire reaches it. Would have to irrigate those trees (and even that might not work).wetcoast91 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 20, 2023 9:02 am Unfortunately, deciduous trees wouldn't stand a chance in that climate.
