Re: August 2023 Forecasts and Discussions
Currently 23C after a refreshing low of 14.1C.
Anyone look at their BC Hydro bill online where it says "compare" and "average outside temperature"? I'm trying to figure out what those numbers are supposed to represent. Lately they've been 3-4C lower than reality. If it's a long term average, I don't know how that's useful. At first I thought maybe it was from YVR, but the numbers still don't match.

There goes my Alma mater, unless they miraculously save it. Also eff them for almost holding exams today. I hate UBC with a passion.
Hopefully it doesn’t burn down though. You’d have to think it’s a major priority but I’m not sure it even matters in these conditions.

It's absolutely baffling that they initially opened the campus today and had exams scheduled to proceed as normal. Unreal.PortKells wrote: ↑Fri Aug 18, 2023 1:44 pm There goes my Alma mater, unless they miraculously save it. Also eff them for almost holding exams today. I hate UBC with a passion.

Hopefully everyone is safe. This is just awful.

Winds have shifted Northerly in Kelowna...
No evacuation order for the city but any new fires in South Kelowna may lead to some insanity

I just saw some reports (unconfirmed) of embers landing in the city proper.wetcoast91 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 18, 2023 2:00 pm Winds have shifted Northerly in Kelowna...

Terrible situation in the Okanagan. I have family in West Kelowna that are not currently on alert, but are prepared regardless. I feel for those that are losing their homes.

Re: August 2023 Forecasts and Discussions
BC Government should be issuing voluntary evacuations right now for the entire proper Kelowna. The 3 roads are completely unable to handle a volume of 100k people leaving at once. May as well get some going elsewhere asap. Tourists should do their part and just go home.

Re: August 2023 Forecasts and Discussions
Shades of August 1967 with the fire situation currently, especially with the dry cold front making things worse -- see the link below:

Edit: Not Kelowna specifically of course, but the general pattern across the southern interior.
